See my previous thread for reasons why

Truck has zero transmission fluid in it.
I'm going to have it flatbed towed (or at the very least dolly towed so all 4 wheels are off the ground) to the shop.
I will put the old transmission pan on finger tight to keep out dirt while its being towed. I have a new pan for the shop to put on.

So, just in neutral from the transmission lever? Or neutral in the transfer case buttons?

I'm looking in the manual, but this is different situation because of no transmission fluid.
Mixed messages from internet if truck is ok to be started without tranny fluid. I'm going with NO.
I still have to push it out of garage 25 feet-I assume this will be ok.

Thanks
Trevor

Probably not a good idea to run the engine much with no transmission fluid but the transfer case is entirely separate.
Put the transfer case in neutral to keep the transmission from spinning while moving the truck around. 4X4 trucks can be flat towed if the transfer case is in neutral. Be sure to use the parking brake and/or blocks to keep the truck from rolling away when the transfer case is in neutral.

I'll do this to get it on the flatbed and in the shop. Just odd that truck will move even when in Park this way.

It's for flat towing behind a motorhome with all 4 wheels on the ground

Why is it odd,4X4's have had neautral in the transfer cases pretty well since the first 4X4 was built. The driveshafts go into the transfer case, then the transfer case hooks to the back of the transmission,so "park" in the transmission has no bearing on the driveshafts if the transfer case is in neautral.

OK, not odd, just something you have to pay attention too, like don't hop out the truck while it's in park, because it will roll

The truck won't move if the t-case is in neautral either,as it sounds like you think it'll still move if you put it in gear.Whatever you do,do not put the truck in park if it's running and the t-case is in neautral,as the transmission will still be turning, even if the transmission is in neautral, and you can take out the park-pin inside the transmission

engine OFF, ignition ON, but not starting the engine. I put the transfer case in neutral, gearshift was in park, I then released the parking brake and had my son push the truck off the ramps. The truck will freeroll in park as long as the transfer case is in neutral. This is how you flat tow it behind a motorhome.

I'm not or the shop won't start the engine until the transmission fluid is filled up.
