And I will trade in the 2019 5th Gen HO Cummins with the Aisin trans. Laramie Crew Cab long bed Dually. I bought it new from the same dealership, with not some but all the options. Kinda makes sense since they have records of all the service on it performed there. The window sticker was $79K

They are asking quite a bit for this 22 year old truck but it is pristine. My 3500 as only 39K miles on it, but I now need something more affordable for future coming trips north to fly fish for trout, with a pop up camper . . .

Get a quote from carmax for an idea of value on your truck. If the dealer won't beat it, just sell it to Carmax.

Use cars.com or similar to search nationwide for used trucks with similar miles and in similar condition, see what they are listed for.

Yeah, I forgot the exact mileage but 174 on the 5.9 might be no concern, no?

That's the biggest concern of all.

The engine can certainly handle that but what about every other component?

You can't undo 22 years and 170k miles of life on that truck.

That's a lot of money for a 22 year old 2 wheel drive truck, no way I would pay that. 2WD is also a huge downside if you plan on going off the pavement at all. Heavy diesel and 2wd do not go well together offroad.

While the engine itself is probably fine, the biggest concern with a 3rd gen is the rest of the truck, it will not be maintenance free so budget accordingly.

Agree with everyone else’s comments…less concerned about the motor, but trans and every plastic piece will be suspect. Is it a CA or AZ vehicle? If so, the frame is probably spotless-ish.

Offer them $14k and settle for $15k. Don’t go a penny higher unless they have detailed maintenance records.
