I have a 2017 dodge ram with a permanent p0441 evap code. I know I had forgot to put the gas cap on once. I've replaced the fuel cap and purge valve already. Any other thoughts to get code off? Does dealer have to reset it since it says permanent?

Permanent codes are just another stupid idea from the emissions nazis, they can not be cleared by a scan tool or disconnecting the battery. However they will disappear if the underlying problem has been fixed. I had that on my Wrangler with a failed open thermostat.

P0441 is "incorrect purge flow". From what I gathered on Chrysler vehicles the PCM pulses the purge valve and wants to see the O2 sensors reading rich from the fuel vapors coming out of the charcoal canister. So check all the lines from the purge valve back and also the connection to the intake. Also put the finger on the purge valve and feel if it pulses (after warmup).

My 3.7 ram 1500 has the p0441 code and everything has been replaced dealing with the evap plus the code is in the system twice. One is current and the second says pending. Any thoughts and or advise is deeply appreciated

When you say "everything" has been replaced, just to clarify, everything includes the purge solenoid, ESIM, charcoal canister, and all of the associated hoses, tubes and lines? Also, the gas cap, filler neck and fuel tank pressure sensor.

The fuel tank pressure sensor is a common cause of p0441.

If I remember correctly, p0441 is set when the system does a leak test on the fuel tank and evap system. Basically, once the engine warms up, the PCM commands the purge solenoid to open for a sec, creating vacuum in the fuel tank, then it closes the purge solenoid. Then the PCM, via the fuel tank pressure sensor, monitors how long it takes for the fuel system pressure to return to normal. If air reenters too fast (due to a leak), it sets the code.

If you have replaced all of those parts and the problem persists, then you have a hole in the gas tank, or a problem with the PCM or wiring.

Maybe have your mechanic do a smoke test.

“permanent” isn’t. It just means the user can’t clear it, the truck has to. It took 1000 miles-ish to clear my “permanent” code after changing the cam.

“current” means it failed the latest self test so the problem still exists.
