Looking for the best bang for the buck on a performance package I've looked at a few including the ones from Moe's Performance. But I'm looking for a good start up package for a stock 5.7 Hemi. All opinions welcome

That is a pretty open ended question, first thing is how deep are your pockets? We can very quickly drain your cash on here with suggestions lol.

The first and biggest upgrade you should do is buy a handheld tuner with a custom tune. Talk to Matt at Moes Performance for the tuner and look up Sean at Hemifever for the custom tune. As you add new mods to your truck you can have a new tune sent to you to account for them.

Your second biggest upgrade will be longtube headers. ARH is the standard for being the best headers on the Ram 1500. However their quality reflects in the price of them (Not cheap).

After that you can go in many different directions, muffler of your choice, ported throttle body, etc. As for intakes, the stock airbox is actually a true CAI and unless you plan to do some serious engine work like upgrading your camshaft and supercharging you’re truck than there is no need to upgrade it.

Lastly this isn’t a performance upgrade per say but worth every penny. Buy an oil catch can, just do it you’ll thank me later. I run a BT catch can but there are a few other great brands out there. Nick@Gotexhaust has a good selection

Very true, on all accounts what does the catch can do I've seen them everywhere.

My suggestion on the best bang for the buck performance simple bolt on mods are:

1. Cold air intake
2. Freer flowing exhaust - no need for a catback. Put in an aftermarked muffler of your choice and keep your resonators to cut down on exhaust drone.
3. A Diablosport programmer. Since you have a 2014 there is no need to purchase a blank PCM. Get one that will support custom tunes aka CMR programming.
4. A custom e-tune. You can do this by email with a tuner such as Jay Greene or Hemifever.
5. Long tubes will help. If you add them later you might want to have your e-tune refreshed.

You asked about the purpose of a catch can. A catch can is a device that is fitted into the crank case ventilation (PCV) system. Installing a catch can will reduce the amount of oil vapors re-circulated into the intake of the engine. This results in a cleaner throttle body over time and it reduces the amount of residual oil with excess hydrocarbons from entering the combustion chamber which can create hard carbon deposits on plugs, valves and pistons.

If your 14 has the 8speed transmission, and you want the tranny tuned, bypass anything Diablo has to offer and go right to HP tuning. It'***** or miss on whether you can tune a 13 or 14's 8 speed tranny via Diablo. Ryan Hogan of Flying Ryan Performance / FRP has a very good rep as an HP tuner these days.

Your Ram is a '14 which transmission do you have? What rear end gears do you have?

I don't think 3.73 was ever available on a 4th gen Ram - would have been 3.21 or 3.92 (diesel, or hemi+6 speed, were available with 3.55) -

Sometimes gearing ends up being the most cost effective way to change the attitude of a vehicle - for example going from 3.21 to 3.92 gives you an increase of more than 22% torque at the wheels in any given gear with no other changes.

That's less relevant with the 8 speed transmission than with the 6 speed, but it's worth considering.

Same here...better than the 3.21, but that's about it...
Yeah, but with Pedal Commander on Sport+ #2, Superchips 93 octane tune and traction control off it breaks both tires loose on a hard launch. Weird.

I haven't done the numbers on a Ram but I did them for my wife's 2002 Mustang V6 just for giggles and here's the kind of difference gears make to torque at the wheels in any given gear:

V6 Stock 225 ft-lbs w/ 3.27
1st 2.84 2089
2nd 1.55 1140
3rd 1.0 735
4th 0.7 515
Speed At 5000 RPM 169mph
RPM at 75MPH 2225

V6 Stock 225 ft-lbs w/ 3.73
1st 2.84 2381
2nd 1.55 1299
3rd 1.0 837
4th 0.7 587
Speed At 5000 RPM 148mph
RPM at 75MPH 2525

V6 Stock 225 ft-lbs w/ 4.10
1st 2.84 2619
2nd 1.55 1429
3rd 1.0 922
4th 0.7 646
Speed At 5000 RPM 135mph
RPM at 75MPH 2800

V8 Stock 302 ft-lbs w/ 3.27
1st 2.84 2804
2nd 1.55 1530
3rd 1.0 987
4th 0.7 691
Speed At 5000 RPM 169mph
RPM at 75MPH 2225

In other words a stock V6 Mustang with only 4.10 diff gears should be able to give an also stock (heavier) V8 Mustang a run for its money at least up to highway speeds when they'll be on a level playing field vs. aerodynamics.

I don't know how that would compare exactly with our trucks but since 3.21 to 3.92 is a 22% increase that means whatever you can do now you'd have 22% more of it before touching the engine. You'd be giving up a little hypothetical top speed but we don't have enough horsepower to go that fast in a brick anyway.

If you had 3.55:1 gears and went to 3.92 that's about a 10.4% increase... not nearly as significant. I'd still do it if it was free or if I wanted speed and cost wasn't a factor.

Long tubes headers, catback, intake, tune, and a catch can are a great start. most of these mods will not only add power but support future mods like cams, forced induction, etc...Long tubes with a tune are going to be the biggest bump in power you can easily bolt on. Catch can is great for many reasons. it is more of a preventative maintenance. I have a can on 2 of my personal vehicles.

Message me if you would like more info and pricing. We can put together a great package at a killer price for you.

I keep seeing this catch can being mentioned, what does it prevent or its purpose?

I don't know what you call fast, but i chickened out in my little 4X4 at 153 mph with 3.21 gears. Even a stock truck with just a tune will run 130+ mph once the limiter is opened up.
