Hey guys, moving from 35 x12.5 on 20`s to 37 x 12.5 on 17`s, just curious what pressures you are running off road?
Mtn Terrain mostly, hard pack forest trails dirt/gravel with some sm/med rock crawl, oca sand....
I`m going with Kanati trail hogs again (almost an exact copy of the Goodyear Duratracs but are 10ply with 3ply sidewalls) they are prefect here in the mtns, great snow/ice, mtn trail performance.
2016 2500, 6.4 with Thuren 3in system and King 2.5 shocks

On Beadlock I would go down to 22psi. To rock crawl on my D rated.
on E rated I would stay around 35. I run 55psi regardless of all other conditions. When I’m going on a trip I will run 62psi.

For a 37x12.50R-17D on a non-beadlock wheel I go down to 20 psi for general four wheeling on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains. Rock crawling might call for slightly lower pressures. But if I know I'm going rock crawling I just take a UTV

I had a buddy bust a bead at 20psi.
I see you are running 37s it must take a 100% duty cycle to air back up and about 15 minutes each tire? (Like playing hid and seek with my kids, I always have to pee when it’s time to air up. )

One of the reasons I`m asking is with the 35 x 12.5 on 20`s I cut a tire running 25psi on the front.
Must have been too low with the short sidewall of 20in set-up....

Yes 20” does not allow you to air down as much as I do. I have Zero experience wheelin’ on 20”

to me 20” have their place and it is not off road.

I know some joker is going to show me a picture of his 46” tire on 20s” to prove me wrong but for me in the 33-37” tire sporting 20” rim, you should not air down but 20-25% of your max tire cold pressure.
Sorry you figured it out the expensive way.

all so most of my rock crawling experience is with a highly modded Jeep running a 3 speed transfer case ( hi, lo, and granny lo) I doubt many PW mod that heavy to rock crawl. There is one 2500 that thinks he is a UTV (just kidding) on the forum that most of his off road in AZ is in the rocks. So he will chime in soon I bet.

I usually go around 28-30 psi off-road. Low 20’s and teens seem bad to me. These trucks are HEAVY. I went down to 20psi a couple weeks ago and well let’s just say.... it got expensive lol. But that’s another discussion. It’s gonna depends on what you carry also. Best is to load up and do some testing.

I'm on 17" AEV wheels with D-rated Toyo MT 37s, I generally run 25psi offroad unless in a ton of sand, and then I'll creep down to 20 - or even lower if it is real powdery and deep. I just did 150+ miles in Moab last week at 25psi on mixed surfaces.

Earlier this summer I did roll a tire off a bead in sand at 15psi, but I had been running for several hours with no issue and it was only when I started doing donuts and really sliding the truck around that I lost the bead. I think I could have run all day at 15psi had I not been doing hooligan things.

Here’s a shot of my tire that was @20psi. Notice nice easy rounded rock so no issues. Some bulge. Really was concerned about rolling a bead. I noticed when I was turning while on rocks it was nasty looking “didn’t get a pic”. And then here’s a pic of the other front tire later in the day also @20psi. Cut in side wall. I think too low and the weight of truck still allowed tire to slice. And I don’t like the tires lol

I thought Toyo came in a E rated tire?
At 15 lbs did you not feel like you we’re dragging butt? I bet a 37 aired down to 15 gave you a net loss of 2”? I considering Toyo because of the three ply sidewall

Lol. Thanks. I think. I’m the poster child of what not to do:chair:
Yeah I knew you played in areas that required a 37 point turn to get there and would have some gear and weight. Plus I was sure you had a story of what not to do. @Grand Mesa will be chiming in soon I’m sure, as he is the tire guru

I played in the white sands in Colorado with my wheels locked, and kept moving as there was a few times I saw myself starting to sink in but I was not air down much (30 I believe) I was throwing a 20 foot rooster tail with my M/Ts

Nothing to say here on 37" tires. Scratching my head though about White Sands, Colorado.
Aww! I have been somewhere in CO that you don’t know about. West of Weston on 12 in South Colorado.
Meant that it is in white sands in CO. Not the White Sands(that’s in New Mexico)
I will edit my last post to clarify.

Trailmaker, nice photos. Must be a coincidence in Colorado terrain due they look identical to the Great Sand Dunes and to Mendano Creek. Even the mountains in the background look the same. Yes, you can 4x4 at the Great Sand Dunes. Done that when I had kids many years ago. Glad that you had fun with your Power Wagon and family.

I was in the Raptor on this trip running 35s and scared my wife too much to go as far as me and the boys wanted to. (I felt like I needed to Bajá to not to get stuck) I did not have onboard air so I was reluctant to let air out too much. This 121 mi trail is on the bucket list for the PW though. (Without the wife!)
