Well we've owned our truck now for about a little over a year and a half. So far we've been pretty happy with it, with no real issues to speak of. It's my wife's truck and for the most part it has an easy life as a grocery getter. Yes It's overkill for our every day needs but after owning two vehicles where our needs outgrew the vehicle I figured it was better to overshoot and get something that well exceeded our needs in the hopes our needs don't outgrow the vehicle many years to come. Well at least the voices in my head said it seemed like a sound plan. :naughty: Of course when I first started looking at these trucks I wanted a PowerWagon, but when it came down to it even though I could afford it, I didn't want to afford so we ended up with a blacked out Big Horn. The loose plan was to do something like what I did with our Wrangler, strategic mod's that serve a functional purpose for how we plan to use the truck.

With that said, the first year was relatively light any sort of mod's. Out of the gate I installed Baja Designs 20" Stealth light bar in the front bumper and the Amp Research BedStep. I'd say something about the adding WeatherTech floor liners, but really who cares. ;)

For Christmas I decided to be a smart ass and give my wife a tailgate assist as a stocking stuffer. You can tell she was overcome with joy.

Shortly after that I picked up a BakFlip HD tonneau. So far I've been pretty happy with it. I wish it kept 100% of water out of the bed area, but I don't think the little that drips in is a big deal. Besides, when we travel anything we don't want wet goes into water resistant bags from Rage Powersports.

Now my original plan was to do a set of rock sliders from White Knuckle Off-Road but when I saw price I could get a set up Amp PowerSteps for almost half the price I didn't even bat an eye and went with the PowerSteps. Unfortunately I wasn't too happy with the crappy LED lights they provided so I upgraded to the ORO LiteSpots that I had picked up as rock lights for my Jeep.

In preparation for our big road trip to Yellowstone & The Badlands last summer I picked up an Arb Fridge and wired up the power outlet in the truck bed.

I also took the time to install some 35w HID's in the low beams & fog lights from GTR Lighting. I was surprised what a big difference it made over the stock bulbs. Sorry, no pic's of them lit up.

Shot from last summer cruising this trail through Buffalo Gap National Grasslands. Pretty fun, nothing to challenging and lots of cows.

Now for the fun stuff. Late last year I decided it was time to pick up a lift for the truck. I wanted something a little more than a leveling kit but not ridiculously tall either. Initially I was thinking of going with the AEV kit, but ultimately decided on the Pure Performance 3" Triple Threat Stage 3 and with their 2 5/8 remote reservoir shocks added their radius arm drop brackets to keep the front suspension geometry in check and the axle centered.

Yeah she kinda looks like she skipped leg day, but it didn't look as bad as I thought it was going to look with stock rims/tires. Due to timing we ran this way for a few weeks as the rims & tires had to be ordered, plus I was wanting to take advantage of the Memorial Day rebates Discount Tire was offering.

I agonized A LOT over what rims and tires to go with and the lesson I learned was don't involve the wife in the decision process because she doesn't care as much as you do. In the end I went with Fuel Trophy rims in 18x9 with +20 offset (5.75" BS) and 37x13.5x18 Cooper STT Pro's.

And making my Jeep look small.

While I like the rims I'm not sure I'm totally sold on the tires. Don't get me wrong, I'm not having any issues with the tires. I'm just not totally crazy about running them at sub 50 psi. I'm still working on hammering out the correct PSI to run in them. I picked it up with 50 psi which I figured wasn't going to be correct so I jacked it up to max PSI of 65 worked my way back to 50 psi but chalk was telling me that was still too much. I'm also not thrilled that I'm getting a little bit of tire scrub on the radius arms. I might need to run a small wheel spacer up front to push the wheels out a little more. In retrospect I might have been better off going with the +1 offset (5"bs) rim instead, but I was aiming for more tucked in. At the worst if we find we can't deal with the 37's I'll see about unloading them and going with a 35. We'll see, it's still early yet.

I've still got a some adjustments to make to the track bar's not to mention getting the alignment. So much to do and not enough time to do it.

After this there isn't much more I really want to do other than find a place to install an Arb air compressor at and maybe add a CB if I can figure out what to do for an CB antenna mount.

I love less rim and more tire on 4wd trucks. Not only does it look a look better, but it is also functional if you need to air down for more traction. This more rim and less tire look some have on their 4wd trucks these days makes them look like ricers. I am not one to lift my trucks because I need then for a different purpose, but I always enjoy seeing someone do it right and actually using it off road. Looks good.

That's a sweet looking setup.

How are the mpg's with those tires?

It's still a bit early yet as we only don't have 300 miles on them, but around town with a little bit of high we seem to be netting around 11.7 mpg. From what we were getting previously that is only about a 2 mpg drop going to a tire that is physically about 3" taller, 2" wider and 27.5 lbs heavier. Somewhat helping the situation is our truck has 4.10 gears and I re-calibrated the speedo for the larger tires.

Nice looking truck..... I'm not a fan of all the chrome on trucks these days so your setup really appeals to me. You've obviously got too much spare time :)

Can you take some pictures of the radius arm drop brackets? How is the overall ride? How long from the time you ordered the kit to the time of delivery? I've heard of some guys waiting months for Prodigies to be built.

From order to delivery for everything it was about 7-8 weeks. The shocks are what took the longest since the lift arrived in about 5-6 weeks. At least I got a free hat and t-shirt and a steep discount on the radius arm brackets.

Here is a pic of the radius arm drop bracket.

Thanks for the picture. Your truck looks great. I've been tempted to buy a PP lift but there just isn't much feedback.

I wouldn't let that discourage you too much. Pure Performance is part of the same company that makes Rock Krawler suspensions for Jeep's where they have a pretty solid reputation. The shocks they use for the trucks are the same they use for the Jeep's, just valved differently. So far, my only complaint was the crappy powder coating on the radius arm drop brackets, but that seems to be standard across the industry.

So last weekend I was a busy little beaver adding some more things.

It was always in my plan to add a set of Bushwacker fender flares to the truck, but when you have your wife (whose truck it is) asking if I'm going to add flares I figured I better get my ass in gear. I ended up going with the Extend-A-Flare because I liked the clean look of them.

Since I was dicking around with the truck I decided wire up the 12v outlet I planned to install in the bed. Mostly because I was too lazy to piece the separate components together I started with the Arb Fridge wiring kit figuring it had everything I needed to start. I then swapped the Arb specific outlet for a standard 12v marine outlet. The only hiccup I ran into was I didn't have enough line to install the outlet on the passenger side of the bed (I'm a little OCD about symmetry) so I installed the 12v outlet under the outlet I already had installed for the our Arb Fridge.

Since I still had time to kill I decided to tackle running a set of auxiliary reverse lights. I figured what the heck since I had a set of Rigid Dually's laying around collecting dust since I replaced them on the Jeep with Baja Designs Squadron Sports. The hardest part was threading about 20" or so of with PET braided sleeving. I stumbled on this product since it was used on the harness for the sPod on my Jeep. I started using it for the wire runs on the Jeep and found I liked it so much better than screwing with wire loom.

Mounting the Rigid Dually's wasn't anything special. I picked up a 36"x2"x1/8" piece of aluminum flat stock and cut it into to sections about 14" or so (I'll post actual measurement in a day or so) using the inboard bumper mounts on the frame horns. This has the Dually's hanging tightly under the rear bumper (I'll post a daylight pic later, I surprisingly don't have one). Currently I have them set up with the Amber covers so they can also function as chase lights if needed. They do alright but eventually I'd like to change them out for Baja Designs Squadron Sports.

That last change, and one that I wasn't totally happy with was stepping down from the 37/13.5/18 Coopers to a 305/70/18 Cooper STT Pro. Ultimately I was a victim of not doing enough research, buying into what I read on the forums and not wanting to have buyers remorse by like I did after lifting and putting new tires on our Jeep. I'll start by saying if you want to run 37's with 3" of lift you go do it, but it's just a matter of how much you are willing to compromise. If you try and stick with only a little backspacing, well you're going to rub on the radius arms. If you go with to much backspacing you're liable to rub the fender liner or worse the fender, not to mention putting too much stress on the front hubs. Some are willing to deal with the rubbing, I was not, especially with our trip coming up in a month and plans to venture off road in both California and Colorado. The other piece of it was I wasn't totally comfortable running the tires at 40psi with a D range tire on an almost 7000lb truck. At least with the new 305/70 tires they're an E2 with a higher than stock load index so I feel a little more comfortable rolling down the road or when we eventually stick a trailer behind it. Over all with the new tires we lost only 2" in diameter an 1" in height. Funny, already I'm dealing with the wife grousing about losing an inch and how "an inch means a lot to woman".

Anyways, this is how she stands now.

This truck looks amazing! Could you take a picture down the side of the truck where I could see how much the flare sticks out and how much it covers the tire?

Sure, here you go. Already had them, just didn't think to add them to post.

This obviously was no fender flare with 37/13.5's with 5.75bs wheels.

With the extend-a-flare (which gives 1.75" of coverage) and 37/13.5's with 5.75bs wheels.

I'll post an update with the smaller tires for perspective.

Thank you! I'm debating on power wagon flares or these with my 20x9 +18 badlands
