I know that everyone recommends dropping to dif to get the oil pan out on the 4x4 models....but has anyone just pulled the axel and split the dif. I looks like if I can get that passanger side housing off the dif I should have enough room to drop the pan. splitting the dif is as simple as taking 4 bolts out. From what I can see on youtube that piece of the dif should just slide off and back on without any issue (vid link below, watch from :30 - 1:30).
Has anyone tried this before? Am I seeing clearance were there is no clearance? Is the pan gonna get hung up on something Im just not seeing?

Did you split the difference to replace the pan? I am replacing my oil pan soon just checking to see if it worked out.

I haven't tried that but I know the transmission is what stopped me from getting my pan out.
Got to remove 1 motor mount bolt and lift 1 side of the engine up. Pain in the butt.
I'd like to know if that would work for future reference.

A 6" lift kit makes oil pan removal a breeze :head3:
