Whats the reason for the swap, reliability? I have an 18 G56 i drove off the showroom floor, and I love it, dont get me wrong, but its really a Slug to get Moving compared to an Auto, especially towing.
I know you wont have the detuned motor like the factory g56 comes with, but its really the gearing more than the motor. That transmission is geared low in the first 3, and reverse is ridiculously geared high. Reverse is Useless with any kind of weight behind it without low range.

Don't tow very much but sometimes we do, mostly working in the bush getting wood, clearing trails, recovering vehicles off winter roads, carrying heavy loads.. then there's hunting, fishing, hiking and the list goes on. The low n slow work the truck does is a tranny killer. In the past we had a a 80 power wagon 4 speed that did all that work and never failed. The 1500's we had between the PW and this 2500 never stood up and the one thing we really like is the suspension on the newer 2500. So just out to make the perfect truck

O.k I just re-read your post and understand this is going in the Hemi.. Many folks swap out the 68 and use the G56 in the Disel, I think you are the first one I have read to do it in the Hemi... In that situation I will say it should be a vast improvement! We owned a 2016 Hemi 2500 6.4 we bought new also, and My biggest complaint int hat truck was the transmission gearing when towing and that annoying gap in 1st to 2nd. This will work nicely for you, good luck.

That is annoying with the 6.4. Why on earth Dodge/Ram used the same transmission gearing on the Hemi as they use on the Cummins is beyond me.....just lazy engineers or pencil pushers. The Hemi mated to a manual would be great.

There is different gear options for the G56 ... I want the 6.29 first gear and the 6.29 reverse gear which the thinking with the 4.10 gears and 35" tires is going to work just fine but that will be a future topic to address

Oh I'm watching this thread like a hawk, and touching myself. I gathered most of the information I need to swap but I'm waiting on final confirmation and more details before I jump in. I've been battling the 66RFE woes for 2 years in my Power Wagon. Even after a complete rebuild and upgrade costing $7k, it still can't shift for ****. At least we have the option of an 8 speed swap now, but like you guys stated, I dont want the tiddie twister shifter, just feels wrong. Any updates?

Yes.. almost getting er done should have my truck in a couple months.. has been a long hard fought battle. The biggest battle you'll have is tuning, I'm somewhat better off due to having a 2014 as my pcm is not locked. As for parts the 2014-18 Ram 45-5500 came with the G56 option behind the 6.4 Hemi so parts are available from Mopar but the dealership sometimes is not easy to deal with. Sure hope you go through with this and find a competent installer.

After driving my new (to me) diesel 2500 with g56, I HAVE to get the manual into the Wagon. It makes the truck platform so much more enjoyable to drive. When I'm supreme ruler, all cars will have a mandated manual option. Period.

I unfortunately made the sad decision to trade my 2015 BGE with the 6spd. It got me where I was going for 180k miles.

I now got the BGE with the 8 spd and it is awesome.

And for the knob shifter. It feels like I am reaching for first gear in my 99 V10 5 gear manual. Sometimes I find myself going for the clutch as I reach for the knob.

I found myself wanting to go back home and grab the 2nd Gen any time the 2015 would go from 3rd to 1st. If they would have just fixed the gap at 2nd...

With the new truck...hammer down and smile

Bump on the swap thread! @BlackGold6.4 hows things coming along?! Been a long road with this thread! I still wish I had stuck with it and made the swap lol.
To slow to handle but all that is left is realign transfer case and fit a new driveshaft. My builder is confident that a HP tuner will fix the codes, he's been on touch with a HP rep about it. I went through a lot of details with my builder to get to this point so yes where almost there
