Instead of pulling my hair out, decided to try and post here for a possible answer.

I purchased the Uconnect map update from HERE a few months back. They sent the update which contained two thumbdrives... one for System update and a second thumbdrive with the map update. Instructions are clear about being sure to install the system update cuz failure to do so could screw up the system.

So, I follow the instructions to insert the thumbdrive for system update into a USB port 1. The trick is figuring out WHICH of the three different USB ports is USB 1. There is one below the AC port so I figure it was that one, but there are also two inside the center console. Doesn't seem to matter though as NONE of them cause the "Start Update" dialogue box to appear on the screen. I have watched some Youtube, read some posts in numerous forums, and learned that the USB must be inserted BEFORE the truck is started. Tried that; didn't work. :(

So I call HERE which sells these updates and they were stumped as well, so they sent me replacement thumbdrives. I put it off and put it off and decided to try it again today. Same result -- different day. :(

Anywho, has anyone been able to successfully update their system. Any advice as to how to get the update screen to come up?

Instructions I've been using are below.

Quick Start Guide

Installation Guide

Thanks for reading this post and look forward to hearing if anyone else has had the same issue.

Denise

Personally, I'd request a refund, return the drives and use Carplay or Android Auto from your phone and have always up to date free maps with live reporting.

BUT if you don't want to do that, have you tried plugging in a drive with songs on it or your phone to see if it reads?

Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes, I’ve tried to plug in USB with music on it with no luck. I will try plugging in with a phone cord attached to my phone and see what happens.

You’re probably right about just requesting a refund. It’s been longer than 30 days so that may not be possible.

Last night, friend tried disconnecting battery to get it to reset and now I’m not able to access SiriusXM. It’s not showing on main screen and when I go to Settings, it says call SiriusXM to Enable Services. Of course, it was outside their business hours. Will be calling them this morning. Fingers crossed they can figure that out.

What a goat rope. :(

Well it will probably work if you get the hub reading. Do you have a center jump seat?

If you mean center console, then yes. There are two USB ports inside it as well as an auxiliary jack.

If the back folds up into a seat i want you to plug in an usb with music only on the drive and see if it'll play music that way.

I loaded three .mp3 songs on a USB drive (formatted FAT32) and plugged it into the USB drive nearest the driver seat. I then tried to select USB1, but it is greyed out and cannot be selected. Ditto with USB2. I also tried using an OEM cable and plugged my phone into both those USB slots, as well as the third one below the A/C plug-in; none would play music from my phone.

I wonder if it's possible that power to the center console USBs/AUX is somehow disconnected. Will ask a friend to check that out.

More to follow...

If you plug your phone into the ones in the console, does it charge? Don't worry about the one on the dash at all (it is charge only, no data). Also, is your center console a folding center jump seat or a full floor console?

The center console is a folding seat, not a full floor console.

Ok, the USB ports are definitely powered although they still won't read USB drive. I plugged iphone via lightning cable into USB1 (nearest to driver side) in the center console and up popped Carplay when I hit the Uconnect app on the truck screen.

I'm just going to ask HERE (Uconnect) for a refund and/or chalk it up to a stupid tax for ordering the map update. The nearest Dodge dealership wants $250 to install it. Not worth it since I rarely use Navigation on my RAM; it's way easier to just plug my iphone in and use the maps.

Thanks for your help and I appreciate your service to our country. My father passed away in 1999 at age 62 from cancer caused by agent orange exposure after serving in Vietnam War 1968-69. His sacrifice is our gain -- I miss him every day!

I'm sorry for your loss.

The Uconnect NAV is nothing but hideous.
I wouldn't give them $5 for an update, especially because the updates are dated right from the start.

I use my NAV only as a timekeeper when travelling to local destinations I know, not that I ever follow the NAV directions.
If I'm ever on a proper trip to an unknown destination, I use my ancient, traditional TomTom GPS because it is far superior.
I believe I bought the GPS in 2010.

If you already have the update on a stick, you may as well work with SKB to get it installed.
If you search the threads, you will find all of the NAV deficiencies.
I had my own bad experience while crossing Southern Ontario a couple of years ago.

I used the NAV while heading west for about 450 miles and returned using the TomTom GPS.
Never again on large 400 series highways or any cities.

And welcome to Ram Forum.

Thanks for the welcome!

SKB has been very helpful! Problem is neither of the USBs will read and I’ve already had HERE send me replacements once.

Frankly, I’m too old to spend another minute worrying about it. I’ll just stick to Bluetooth and use of Maps on my iPhone when I need directions.

I’ll update y’all if I actually get them to issue a refund (or I successfully dispute the charge to my credit card).

Take care :)

Sort of like that.

The 400 series is Ontario highways that are larger, faster, and have no stop signs.
I'm sure you've been on the 401 during your visits a few years ago.

You're most welcome.

If you're able to connect to your phone with CarPlay, the USB connection is working correctly.
AFAIK, the 2018 Uconnect isn't wireless, and likely, only one of the USB ports will function for data.

Unless your truck/Uconnect radio is a higher trim level than my '21 Warlock.

Is the 'HERE' in your post above supposed to be a link? I can't see it.
You can just paste the link anywhere.

I don't know if FCA or Uconnect ever provide refunds, if that's where the stick came from.
I would try anyway.

Doubt it. It was 2001 and we just crossed over from International Falls into Fort Frances.

Only stop signs I see on Interstate known as traffic jams especially by Austin.

My mistake.
I thought you had visited the Canuck Center of the Universe area, AKA Toronto.

.
Nah. Was in Canada south of Montreal few times 76-80 cross at IH 87 crossing NE New York. Alkyhal cheaper in Canada than US. Back in my USAF days stationed Northern Tier.

That must have been what I was recalling.

If you hadn't crossed directly into Quebec, there would have been a short stretch of 401.

I use I-81 or I-83 and rarely the Quebec crossings. I may have filtered those out.
