This is dealerships response on why he needs to scan…(my truck is out of warranty for this). And he did tell me he needed to scan when I was there but not in detail and was going to charge me so….

because it is warranty, we have to have a scan report that has the software level, xm number, and radio internal number in order to order it, i did tell you that when you stopped by for me to get the quote as well, it is the radio manufacture that needs that in order for them to process warranty on the radio.
thank you

Ram is replacing mine but the dealer wants me to stop by to get codes. They tried to run this before Ram agreed to cover it. Would have been over $100 I would have had to pay so I didn’t do it then. Didn’t see how it was necessary.
Did anyone have to take it in for a scan to get the radio codes before they would order?
Well I emailed my Ram Cares person, twice, asking about having to take it in for that and she hasn’t responded.

It’s a 3 hour round trip!
Hi LittleEagle22,

I'm sorry this was advised to you! I responded back to your PM and will check back into the case for further direction from your case specialist.

Hmmm, what does delamination look like?

Mine was replaced outside of warranty and my servicing dealer charged me $100 as a deductible. Replacement radio was a refurbished unit with an updated screen. Included a two year warranty on the radio. Never mentioned any scan or diagnostic. In fact the service advisor went out to my truck, turned it on and went into the radio menu for the serial number and whatever other info they needed to order the replacement. Three days later they called advising it was in and to set up an appointment. Took them two hours to install and I was on my way with a new radio. Like you assumed the dealer is looking for a little extra from the diagnostic scan.

I am just curious how many people have had issues with the screen delaminating on there touch screen radios. Ram Cares doesn't seem to care and I am looking to see how big of a problem this is. If there are enough issues I may contact legal representation to see if this qualifies for a Class Action suite.
There are a bunch of people I know personally whom have this issue and if you google "Dodge screen delamination" you see how many Dodge cars it effects. Obviously they don't understand or care how serious it is when your car is calling emergency services, or random people in your phonebook as you are frantically trying to hang up these phantom calls while doing 70 on the freeway due to screen delamination. This is an extremely serious issue that needs to be addressed with legal action as Dodge couldn't care less. This is due to poor design and most likely improper or cheap adhesive used by dodge and only starts to delaminate as soon as 1 year into ownership in some cases. I'm trying to find an attorney who specializes in something like this. Let me know if you have gotten anywhere with this as far as legal action. If you go on YouTube you can see this effects challengers and other Dodge cars. Absolutely disgraceful that Dodge doesn't take this seriously.
P.S. I am going to try the isopropyl alcohol method and then Double sided tape as seen in the YouTube video link below and will report back. The "phantom or ghost" touches as people refer to them will turn on and off your climate control, call emergency services through XM or your Nav or phone, change the radio station, call random people, mute your calls/end your calls and I have found no way to stop this...

Mine was replaced under warranty no questions ask. Dealerships know it’s a problem especially with 2018’s. If no warranty then it’s a crap shoot to get dealers to replace as so many have experienced

I bought my 2018 used from a BMW dealer and it was delaminating when I test drove it. They replaced it as part of the deal, and the service advisor told me the radio only cost them $355 from the FCA dealer. Dunno, but it's been working great since replaced.

Panasonic makes the uaq and uas radios.lg makes the screens I don't know who makes the glue.you get the point on who is actually at fault.they have three screens sl 1,2 or 3.i don't know the change over dates but if you have a 18 you got a one that delaminates.i haven't seen a 2 delaminated personally but their must have been a problem because they had another revision.the couple 2's I have used had a shiny gloss like screen not mate like the 1 or 3 and glare like hell to me so that may be it.

My Ram doesn't have a touchscreen as it's a 3rd Gen but my 2018 Challenger does. It has a 8.4" screen which delaminated and I just replaced the screen myself a month ago. Dodge cares told me I need to take it to the dealer for a diagnostics first which costs $100 and then they could help out....which who knows how much they can help out.

I went to eBay and bought a upgraded SL-02 screen for $225. I read it's not supposed to delaminate and it was real easy to install and it works great.
Loads up way faster than my stock SL-01 and just performs better and is very clear now as whatever coating is on the stock glass left permanent dull finger marks on it where I use the icons the most.

Hopefully the newer version doesn't have the same coating on it as it seems to look more glossy.

When I mention SL-02 it is marked in the pic on the LG sticker under the model number.
Stock is a SL-01 for my year anyways and they all delaminate. There is also a SL-03 which is more expensive and a lot harder to find.

Not sure what is different about that one but my 2018 allegedly can use that one as well.

eBay...and search for your year and 8.4 replacemnt uconnect screen and it will bring up many of them to choose from. They range from $205 on up to over $300. On Amazon they were much higher.
The people i got mine from has since raised their price to $300 and why i suggest you search, but...if you want the seller name is Top-Autopart.

$170 does sound better, I guess even if it is lower quality I could get more than 2 of them for the same price. I bet it’s the same screen anyway. I’ll look into the eBay screens

Its $170 cheaper. It isnt lower quality, they are the same OEM screens made by LG.
The cost was $225 plus tax. And its the same screen as far as what it does but its a SL2 which is version 2 from the original that everyone is having issues with. SL2 isnt supposed to delaminate. There is a SL3 but it is around $400 and harder to find.

Look at the pics and they will have stickers on the back and look for the SL2 because SL1 is still out there and they will be even cheaper but you dont want the same issue.

Interestingly the picture of the 8.4 screen on Cuescreens website shows an SL01. The description says all new design, upgraded components, etc.
