Been doing it for some time. Seems to only happen when I get on the throttle hard, I can drive for an hour and not hear it but when I get on it hard past 3000 rpms and then come to a stop a few seconds later, I'll hear it moaning softly, stop, and then a second later the sound is gone.

Once its moaning, it doesn't change with speed of the truck or RPMs.

Can anyone identify this sound? Only thing I did to my engine before the moaning started last year was the remote oil filter kit and a change to a 180 tstat.

Is it engine noise, or maybe something in the drive train?

Might need headphones to hear it, but can see right before the end of the video it just stops though sometimes the sound stops a second or two after coming to a complete stop.

(please ignore the filthy interior, its winter here and the truck does get used lol)

Sounds like either the clutch fan or the elec ac fan shutting down

Agree on electric fan, but wondering why it just started making that noise last summer? I've owned it for few years before and never heard the fan until it got really hot while towing through a park and then the whole park heard that thing singing.

Of course, depending on how deep you were in it when you got on it, could be it just wants more....

Haven't heard my name yet, must be doing something wrong?

Mine did the same thing for awhile after I installed the oil filter relocation kit. It seems to have went away though. I even had dealer look at it and they couldn’t figure out what it was. I did have the two coolant lines zip tied together so the new oil lines wouldn’t rub against the foam….. once I removed that zip tie, the noise went away. ‍♂️
To me the noise sounded like a power steering pump was low on fluid but that can’t be the case with the Ram.
I’d check your lines underneath. Maybe the vibration is causing the humming? Just glad mine stopped when it did. Was getting very annoying.

Interesting, I will have to wait for warmer days to test that. Did it have the same behaviour where you only heard it after running the truck harder than normal?

So I checked out the coolant lines but don't think that's it.

Here is a really good shot of the sound. I shut the truck off when hot, started it right back up and heard it moaning while in park so it's not movement related (I was thinking maybe brake pads at first).

Anyone have any ideas?

Put the camera as close to the top of the tank as you can,as i agree with 1500,sounds like the fuel pump

Could it be coming from the fuel pump?

I'm pretty sure it's coming from under the hood? The trouble with this sound is that it only lasts about a second or two when the truck stops rolling. If I'm climbing a grade or getting it above 2000 rpms for a bit then I can hear it for that length of time, but as soon as I come to a stop it just fades out like in this video.

Just recently (last 2 days) its been getting worse, now if I shut my truck down and start it right back up it will sometimes do it as well for a second or two, not a whole lot of time for me to get out with the camera and reposition but I'll see if I can get some audio closer to the front and one closer to the rear.

Could you possibly commandeer an accomplice to await your moaning arrival?

Even better, if you could have a couple of kids awaiting your arrival, one fore, one after.

I did just run a test right now, I got my truck hot and parked it, let it idle, coolant temps hit 108C (about 226F), fan turns on and the temps come down. The fan doesn't spin very fast, but the fan spinning is noticeable enough both inside the truck and out and the temp readily drops as it should; seems like this this is all working as it should.

However, when the fan is on, it does not make the moaning noise I'm hearing, so the fan noise seems to be different than whatever is making it moan.

Curiouser and curiouser.

Are there any other cooling fans on these trucks? Something for the transmission or transfer case etc etc?

If it was the fuel pump, would you suspect other symptoms to appear as well? CEL? Rough running?

The engine itself seems to be running really smooth and great, no stuttering or anything like that. MPG all looks normal.

Thinking about it more: this started happening almost a year ago now, I noticed it on my first trip out after installing a 180 tstat and the pacbrake remote oil filter kit. Could either of those be causing this? I've heard pressurized fluid make different noises before in farm equipment so don't laugh lol.

And last thought: it's getting worse over time. First I just heard it that one time pulling the trailer, then I would hear it only on hard/sustained accelerations, now I'm hearing it going down a long steep grade (foot of the gas just letting the engine brake) or even mild acceleration through the city.

What condition is the PVC in it works on Vacuum related to the throttle acceleration and deceleration, is your throttle body plate clean?

I wouldn't know how to check! It only has 60k miles on it though, and I think the dealer did something with that 2.5 years ago as part of a deal they were offering for maintenance.

Maybe it REALLY likes the way you drive?

Do you trust what the steeler did, it's on top of the intake plenum on passenger side, on the throttle body take the snorkel off and look inside they sell a cleaner to clean the throttle plate and areas, as @Wild one posted here it may be a vacuum noise from the bolts being loose on the intake plenum.
