That was a potential disaster as that thing would have been a tumbling chunk of iron had it fallen off your tranny while you were doing 70 mph on the freeway. Imagine that thing coming through the windshield of a Prius being driven by a young mother with a baby in the back seat or a pair of elderly grandparents...has all the makings for a lawsuit nightmare for you - and ultimately FCA.

Many years ago the local circle track started a mini stock class. VWs, Pintos, etc could complete. VWs, being fairly cheap, were done of the first and most competitive entries.

A friend was stripping excess sheet metal from the body of his rig and found a large chisel inside a door pillar. His Bug was probably close to 15 or so years old at that point. We laughed thinking about some poor dealer mechanic going nuts looking for a mysterious rattle that was never found.

Stuff happens.

I used to be a Ford tech years ago. we had a new vehicle we were putting through it’s pre delivery inspection. Then you DROVE the car to make sure it was okay before customer got it.
The fella driving it came back and told the foreman that this vehicle was dangerous, so much wheel wobble. First thing Forman did was tell him to remove front wheels and balance. Could not balance at all! Heavy spot on tyre and it just rotated to bottom if you spun by hand on balancer. Stripped off tyre, found a short tyre lever left in there from factory!!!!!

something like this right:

The original machine had a base plate of prefabulated amulite, surmounted by a malleable logarithmic casing in such a way that the two main spurving bearings were in a direct line with the panametric fan. The latter consisted simply of six hydrocoptic marzlevanes, so fitted to the ambifacient lunar waneshaft that side fumbling was effectively prevented. The main winding was of the normal lotus-o-deltoid type placed in panendermic semi-boloid slots in the stator, every seventh conductor being connected by a nonreversible tremmie pipe to the differential girdlespring on the "up" end of the grammeters.
The amazing tuboencabulator! A marvel of engineering.
