"So, while my wife and I are down to her car, she just blew a tire on the highway!..fortunately in town and she had a spare, but man when it rains it pours!"
No matter how frustrated you get with this, fix the tire joyfully. Fixin' things with the wife if you don't can get complex and expensive.

My favourite tool for battery maintenance will always be the post/clamp cleaner. If you drive anything longer than 6 months in a variable climate, how could one not justify this expense?

I can buy them in Canadastan for less than $10.

I'll bet it's dirty battery cables. Same thing kept happening to my wife's car. I finally got down and cleaned them real good and used the sprays that enhance contact and prevent corrosion. Been trouble free for months now. Same battery.
its the starter :/ replaced it and its runs fine now! i removed and cleaned the terminals while broken down though and it didnt help!

I don't think I know any guy that doesn't have a couple.

I know that I have 3 of them.

Years ago, I would occasionally misfile tools and when they're so cheap, why not just replace it. They were about $5 up here, must have been about $2, stateside.

I'm surprised at the number of vehicle owners who have never had the pleasure of using one of these devices.

I was hooked after the first 30 seconds of use. They're just so efficient and effective for the purpose.

Now quick, everyone rush out to Harbour Freight or Princess Auto and get one of these, if you don't already have 2 or 3 of them.

Hey guys, urgent request here! Sitting at a gas station 300km from home with my baby in my 5.7 2014 ram 1500 and after filling up with gas it’s not starting. All lights come on, radio, etc etc, battery says it’s good, tried jumping, but it doesn’t even attempt to turn over.. no sounds or anything from the truck when I turn the key. Any ideas?!
Do you hear the fuel pump turning on? Watch a video on YouTube to kinda know what to hear if you don’t know.

It happened to me one time but I wasn't filling my tank. I was at lowe's when inside came back outside and it wouldn't start. No click no nothing but the lights went on stereo worked everything worked fine. Got a jump didn't help. The tow truck guy was trying stuff and then I went and cleaned off the battery terminals and voila the truck started. Good luck!

Always a good idea to check battery connections and starter connections for corrosion, glad your going.

I wonder, been yrs since I rebuilt a starter or alternator, can you even buy brushes or solenoid anymore for these, I use to do lots, as a lot of my stuff was old when I bought it.

I have been having trouble with the wifes 2008 Honda Crv, battery would crap out if it sat for a week, load test last fall said Ok, it was fine when in use, but last week it was way low up town , happened to be a Canadian Tire, so bought one of those new little jump boxes, as my old one crapped out while back.

They really worked great, needed it next day as well so took the battery in and bought a new one, it showed a bad load test, I had the doors open for 30min, while I was cleaning the inside, and dome lights enough to drag battery down.
That was 3 yrs old Honda battery, but I didn’t go back to Honda

BTW, My 2014 Ram is still on the original battery, both at about 85kM Guess the truck is where I should carry the new jumper, it will also charge /run cell phones, etc.

Occasionally, it's pretty easy to spontaneously post the answer first, before reading. Sometimes after posting, I re-read the thread and change my mind about my contribution.

On the lower left side, all of your posts will have an edit link. Just hit edit, delete the content and replace with a period or "deleted".

Lots of people seemed to have hopped right to the end of the thread haha. It was solved already and the trucks running as usual again! Bad starter. First move was disconnecting the battery altogether to try to reset the computer as I was skeptical about it being the starter since typically they give signs that they're going bad, and when I had it disconnected I gave the posts and connectors a good wipe even though they were already clean. Thanks to all of those that have helped! Hopefully this thread helps someone in the same situation down the road, and hopefully for them its just dirty terminals haha

Yep, the mechanic confirmed it's just the starter! I'm relieved it's a cheap and easy fix. So, while my wife and I are down to her car, she just blew a tire on the highway!..fortunately in town and she had a spare, but man when it rains it pours!
So sorry to hear that, but everyone is safe, and that is what counts.
