So, I just got my first truck and it came with limo tint all around. I’ve noticed while searching that tinting on trucks is one of the first mods people do and I’m lucky mine already came tinted but I can’t see at night when I check my blind spot and my truck doesn’t have the lane change assist feature. How do you guys check the blind spot with this tint on? Please help! I like the look of the tint but definitely not safe especially with the baby in the truck. Can you add the lane change assist feature? Appreciate any suggestions!

I’m sure you could add the lane change assist feature but do you want to spend your life savings adding it to your truck? lol
I’d bet it would be cost prohibitive and much cheaper to simply change the tint grade on the front door glass. The factory glass has a darker dye on the rear doors and back glass than the front door glass so it’s easier to see out of at night. Every state has different tint laws and a lot of people disregard the law in favor of what they want. Any tint shop should be able to remove the tint on the front door glass and replace it with a lighter grade.

If it was me I would remove the dark tint and install lighter tint - safety first! I would also install a small wide view mirror to the outside mirrors, similar to this:

Thank you! I thought these guys had a trick or something to be able to see through the tint Definitely going to apply the small wide view mirrors and change the tint.

You might want to check with the local laws about window tint, there is usually a limit on how dark one can go.
As for spot mirrors, here's ones that are specific for the Gen4 Ram
The dealership said the previous owner went right up to the legal limits on all windows. I’m surprised it’s legal to make it so dark‍♀️

I haven’t really done any kind of mods to any of my cars before so I don’t know how much these things cost. Most I’ve done is put lights in the interior, add seat covers and installed dash cams ‍♀️ but now I definitely have my dream truck and will be looking to mod a few things myself ☺️

So you’re saying that the windows already come with some what of a tint and is not completely clear if I take off the tint?

dark tint on driver passenger window is illegal everywhere in canada. I would take it to a shop and have it swapped to something a little lighter so you will not get bothered by the police. When i was young i had limo black on all the windows and always had to roll down the window to see things was a PIA.

The rear windows should have a factory tint on them that's somewhere in the 20% range. I typically tint my front two windows to match the factory tint on the rear and then do a 70% ceramic tint on the windshield. The windshield tint isn't noticeable and doesn't impact anything at night, but it does remove the halo effect from oncoming traffic headlights and cuts the heat down on the dash to almost nil. You can still see in the truck, so I've never had any issues with it, but technically in our state my fronts are tinted darker than allowed.

I had 5% tint installed on my Durango years ago and I'd never go that route again. We had to roll the windows down to see the mirrors to back up at night. Absolutely not worth it.

Factory 'privacy tint' that you'll find on most SUV and truck windows (NOT front doors, that's never factory) is going to be around 20%. That's the most common level of tint used on front windows to match the others.

Peel the tint you have (a steamer helps if it's stubborn), get 20% installed up front.

Congratulations on your new truck! I wish you the best with it. If you remove the tint off of the front door glass it will not be completely clear. It has a slight degree of tint to it but is lighter than the rear doors or back glass. From what my tint guy told me, factory glass is dyed and offers little to no UV protection or heat rejection. I don’t know if this is true, maybe a selling tactic but I do know the interior of the truck is noticeably cooler with aftermarket tint. My state only allows 35% on the front door glass so that is what I went with and I can easily see out of the glass at night. It still provides great heat rejection and keeps the interior cooler. We all live in different places but a ballpark figure to change the front door glass tint should be maybe $50 to remove the old tint and a hundred bucks for new lighter ceramic tint. As another poster suggested you can also remove the old tint yourself and save some money.

Everything costs more in Canadastan.

This is for a Ceramic tint, rated at 87% uV block.

The tint laws in Ontario appear to be a bit vague but I do recall the OPP saying they would charge drivers if they couldn't see into the vehicle through the driver's window.

Correction; According to the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, both of the front side windows are not allowed to obscure the view of the interior.

The dealership said
Salespeople will say anything to make the sale, just like an RV salesperson will say your truck can pull that no problem.
If your having problems seeing then the tint is not worth "the look". It's your safety and making it home in one piece that should be the deciding factor on whether you want to be able to see out the windows.
A quick call to the local police department or even a reputable tint shop can explain how dark you can go, there maybe stipulations that it's for medical reasons (light sensitivity).

Thank you! Jeez things are really cheap in the US. In Canada tint starts at about $260 for sedans and $320 for SUVs/Trucks. Removal is about $90/hr. I’m definitely going to remove it myself and MAYBE re-tint it myself I still want the benefits of tinted windows.

When I hear "limo tint" that is typically like 5% tint which is very dark. I have 20% tint (the lower the number, the darker the tint) on my truck and think it's a pain to see out at night sometimes. 35% on my car which I think is a good compromise....rarely have an issue seeing out at night in it. I did 20% on my truck front windows to match the rear doors. Hindsight being 20/20 I would probably go with 35% on the truck also even though they wouldn't be a perfect match for the back doors...but they would still match a lot closer than the factory setup.
In any case, I would go to a tint shop and have them look at your truck and provide some recommendations.

Normal dark tinting works the reverse at night... of course you know that now. We have tinting on some house windows and when it's really dark outside you can't see squat out of them at night....unless you put your eyes up close and shroud any light with your hands.

Side note: Like other forum members pointed out, be sure it's legal. I got a ticket many yrs ago due to excessive window tint. Bought a tk from a state with more lax tinting laws. I had driven it for 5 years and never had a problem till one cop. He was nice about it. The ticket was forgiven once I removed it.

Ouch! Skippy must be angry with the window tint community lol
It’s been a few years since I got the tint on my truck but it was $300 USD for ceramic. That was at a reputable shop that’s been at the same location for 23 years. My daughter just had her Civic tinted by some fly by night 19 year old guy working out of the back of his pickup for $150. He actually did a pretty good job although she is much better looking than me, young and dumb enough to give a 19 year old beer while he installed the tint.
