I have a question for you guys who lift or lower your trucks. What performance or other advantage is there to either one?

When you lift it, you get serious redneck street cred...Minus points if you don't have cargo lights up top. My cred is minimum....I have 35's on a diesel....But I do have cargo lights, AND I have a hitch reciever sticking out.

I don't have mine lifted or lowered, nor cargo lights, but I do have a wonderful Mk I/Mod I Shin-buster ball mount hanging off the back.

Better ride, better looks, it’s mandatory to lift the 5th gens because trucks should not scrape the front bumper on parking blocks that’s embarrassing

I won't argue the "better looks" part because that is subjective, but how does it provide a better ride?

Better shocks, softer or firmer rate springs etc. Ride quality is also subjective same goes for color and sound. People like what they like its not our jobs to figure out why. We should enjoy things that make ourselves happy. From your picture it looks like you enjoy hunting thats a perfect example, for those that enjoy the outdoors understand. The ones that dont like gun powder and only eat lettuce dont get it. There is a lot more to modifying a truck just like there is a lot more to enjoying leisure time. Asking more direct questions such as how can I get a smoother ride in my 2023 Ram 2500 because some bumps hurt my spine go a lot farther in these forums.

Apparently, you took the question as a judgement of some kind. Not a put down, or opinion either way. It was simply a question, because I want to understand - what performance or other benefit do people get from lifting or lowering their trucks? I personally don't think it makes a truck "look" better, but that's a personal choice. As for me, I have never given a single thought to trying to smooth out the ride because mine rides very smoothly and comfortably just as it is as it came off the line. It certainly isn't any worse than my previous Silverado 1500 4x4, which I drove for 23 years without any modifications.

Assuming both are done correctly and with quality components correctly engineered for the vehicle (and in no particular order):

Lowering:
-Decreased wind resistance (air flow under the vehicle is typically "dirtier" than air flow over it, minimizing air flow under the vehicle reduces drag) which leads to slightly better fuel economy.
-Lower center of gravity, which means less weight shifting and body roll, which means better cornering and braking.
-Depending on how low, easier in and out for folks with mobility issues. Note there's a point it becomes harder to get back out of.

Lifting:
-Better visibility, not only in seeing over other vehicles but getting you up and out of the wheel spray from semi trailer's wheels in the rain, out of other people's headlight glare, etc.
-Ability to stuff bigger tires, increasing ground clearance for off road and *if you go with taller sidewalls vs bigger rims* more sidewall flex. That's good for traction when aired down and good for ride quality.
-More room for suspension to flex, potential for softer ride there.

And of course the benefits of one are the trade offs of the other. Note you can absolutely do it poorly and get the negatives of both with a poorly engineered lift, wagon wheel tires, etc.

Just picked up my ‘25 Ram couple weeks ago. Have found everything I want to add so far except lift kit. What did you use on your set up?

They look better in person. Customer originally wanted Vossen wheels then when budget cutting started I found him these fuel wheels with the same clean look he was going for
