Was just reading a story on MSN that Stellantis will phase out chrome on vehicles. I have been about 50/50 on my vehicles whether they have zero or a lot of chrome. Understand the chemical effort is nasty. But just, dang.

I used to love chrome, especially back in the 70's & 80's. Just got a 2024 Warlock that was all black except for the antenna, RAM letters on the grill and lug nuts. Went all black and love it! Hard to believe they would stop making it though!

Chrome has been slowly faised out for the past 30 years. I used to work in a chrome shop back then that did the chrome work for the automotive and yes it is a very nasty process and im really surprised it still exists. Back then i loved chrome and had the brightest car in the neighbourhood...LOL... now i black it all out because i hate it.. Not to mention the quality of the chrome anymore is nowhere near what i used to put out now.... not even close...

I liked the color match better, but chose chrome bumpers because the painted ones look like $hit after a single winter. Chrome is MUCH MUCH harder material and holds up very well. Neighbor buys a new Longhorn every year. He went with chrome this year because is front bumper looked like a shotgun blast.

Noticed one of the new Harley CVOs had black chrome pipes... I stayed away from the blacked out HD because the pipes were previoiusly powder coated (again, not nearly as durable or easy to keep clean). But a CVO costs as much as a new Ram.

If they're phasing out chrome bumpers... they need to have a solution winter issues.

(And BTW, polished aluminum wheels are not the same look as chrome)

Last car I owned with chrome was a hand-me-down 1987 Ford Escort. That was when I got my license in 95. Last 3 trucks have been Ram 1500’s, 2 sports and now a built to serve. 2016 sport had Fuel wheels so no chrome, 2018 sport had chrome lugs that I replaced with black, but they chipped and began to rust after install. I can live with chrome lugs and center caps on the built to serve. Personal preference, but I think the industry and consumers are moving away from chrome.

Exactly right. I have had several vehicles with painted front ends over the years. Own a couple right now. They all suck for long term wear. I love the durability and looks of chrome.

I was never a big chrome fan. It had its time and place back on older cars, but modern cars look weird with it. Chrome used to be a luxury thing. It played itself out.

so some folks are worried about the chrome process but it's a nothing burger to anyone when a hole big enough to be seen from outer space is dug in Nevada and 1.7 billion gallons of water a year is used and 5000 gallons a week of liquid acid need to be disposed of all in the name of mining some lithium for automobile batteries. hmmm. I'd rather have some chrome stuff. my two Harleys are covered with it.

My Express, now my son's Express, still looks good with a painted bumper and it's 12 years old. A layer of wax keeps in fine in the winter. I'd probably consider doing some PPF these days as well.
