My Paint is Deteriorating quickly!!!!

The paint on the roof of my 2018 Ram 1500 started to blister early in the spring. I took it to my dealership (where I bought the truck new in 2018) and was told to "sucks to be you" my paint warranty had ended about 11 months before. Nothing they could do about it. It looks horrible and is continuing to deteriorate. Now I'm noticing blisters on the doors and the box sides.
I can't afford a full paint job, I'm still paying off the truck.
Any ideas?

I suggest you post pictures as you will receive better feedback. Hopefully it's only the clear and not the start of rust.

You need a full paint job, taken down to bare metal. There must have been contaminated primer of paint or the surface wasn't clear.

Maybe @RamCares could help negotiate a goodwill price at your dealership. But you want to invest in this to limit the impact to the body.

Definitely a full paint job. You really need to figure out a way to get this done sooner rather than later. It will cost a lot more once things start to rust, if they haven't already.

For sure a full paint job, contaminated primer and or paint, of course now rusting.

Oh wow! That is definitely a strip and repaint situation. Sand to bare metal, rust inhibiting primer etc etc etc....

If you want to go cheap, you could probably have the surface paint prepped and then vinyl the roof. Doors and sides... not going to help there.

That sucks man! Never seen such bad paint on a RAM.

I totally agree with that statement. I have seen similar on other vehicles throughout the years. Several being dark blue in color.

Op, I'm not a body man but that's not normal and If you haven't I'd be looking to see if the roof hadn't been damaged and repaired.

Has your truck been exposed to heavy chemicals, do you live near a plant that produces corrosive exhaust output?

Even if you go to bare metal, the repair is not going to leave a smooth repaintable surface unless a lot of body glaze is used.

I'd get rid of that unit. That's not a problem I'd want to deal with.

There isnt a chance in he double toothpics I would repaint that truck. Throwing good money at bad. Sand to bare metal and have linex spray it. The guy here used to do it same cost as truck bed if it was just the roof. The wild fires ruined my wifes roof, I just used raptor spray cans on it. It was 15 year old car, so no biggy. But that one I'd see how much linex or rhino would charge. BUT, you need to do the sanding, because the product sticks to itself, those boys just dont prep hardly at all.

@Hemi395 repainted his truck roof with about 90% less damage then that, how did that work out?

BTW did that truck have wild fire ash on it and didnt clean it off? I doubt paint warranty would fix that, they would have blamed it on road salt or ash my bet.

I had it repainted once and 3 years later it started cracking and then rusting. Clearly they didn't prep it properly.

This time I decided to fix the spots myself seeing as it's the roof and you can't even see it unless you're on a ladder. So far only one spot needs to be redone and that was my fault.

But damn the OPs roof looks BAD. Almost looks like it was painted at one point and wasn't prepped right at all....

Agree with everyone else here, it needs to be taken down to metal and redone. For now I would get some rust converter on asap...

Wow, that is bad. Never seen that happen before. Seen the clear coat disappear and paint fade, but, that is bad. I agree with others, it needs to be taken down to bare metal, properly treated and repainted. I would also worry about the pain on the rest of the truck as well.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts. Here are the latest pics, I'm going to try to get up there and do the work myself. I'm 61 and a little nervous being up on the roof, so I'll see what I can do from the truck bed. If I get as much paint off as I can, then prep the bare metal with a good primer, at least it won't look so nasty.

That looks like what started happening to my 2008. Almost like there were bubbles under the paint on the roof. I ended up having the roof linex'd. There are a couple of small areas inside the back door frame that I am going to sand down and paint myself. Not like anyone sees that area unless the door is open.
