Hi, 2016 Crew Cab. The black matte “vinyl” between the doors is pretty shot. Thinking of replacing and all threads reference it’s just vinyl and get a sheet and take your time and remove and replace. I was searching for something pre-cut oem vinyl. I came across this and was thinking of getting. The pic is only 1 for reference. I called them up to verify since it looks more than just a vinyl piece with the cutouts etc. they said it’s more of a plastic then a vinyl sheet. They checked my vin and confirmed it’s the right part. For anyone that has removed theirs, does this look right? Was the one removed sort of a hard plastic with maybe the edges being flexible vinyl to wrap around? Any insight would be appreciated. Holding off till I get some type of confirmation and thoughts. For $9 a pillar I think oem would be easier and better in the long run. Thanks!

It's vinyl.

Personally, I hate the factory matte stuff. Gloss black would look nice against the windows which should always be tinted. I had the body shop just leave it off altogether when they painted my truck, looks good with dark colors.

So you didn’t actually remove it, the body shop did?

I HAVE removed my vinyl strip off my 2017 Ram. I hate it. I used a heat gun to remove it. It's not a normal vinyl. It does a have plastic like texture. has a very heavy glue on it. When I used the heat gun on it, once I got it pealed away from the pillar, it was brittle, which would push me to say it's more plastic base than vinyl.

By the way, the picture does look correct on how mine looked peeling it off. It is NOT a hard plastic. The main reason I removed mine was because I had some "snaggs" on the passenger side, probably from a tree branch or something.

Awesome! Thanks for that. I feel better now and will give them a shot.

I have some snags as well. At this point for around $40 for all 4 I think I might just give it a shot.

Make sure you remove the small screw on the inside that holds the molding corner. Then you will have to pull back the rubber molding seal at the bottom to lay the strip down. The right side of your picture is the bottom of the strip. That little cutout part is where you're going to go around the screw hole.

When I look at these, why does the picture look like the plastic that goes on the INSIDE of the pillar. I don’t think the above, even though it says appliqué, it’s the outside vinyl replacement.

Good luck. send me a message on how it turns out for you. curious of how it goes.
Ordered the 4 appliqué parts today. I’m hoping they are for the outside and not the internal lower portion of the pillar. Also waiting on a replacement set of in channel vent visors since they will have to come out and I got a good deal on a new set.

I personally HATED the vinyl. So I removed it. My thought was and is if I change my mind I will do it back with paint so it will look good for many years.
