I know the dowel pin is for lining up the cam. But on my replacement cam it looks a little boogered. Is this ok or no. Just wondering if the dowel pin serves any purpose other than alignment?

Well, if the sprocket fits on it and doesn't rock it should be just fine.

I would, however, not be very happy about that pin. I don't think it's an install issue, it appears to be a pin manufacture issue. Replaceable, if it's not a super tight press fit.

It’s an oem cam and I sent the seller pics they’re shipping me out a new one. Also told me to keep the damaged one. I’ll keep it as a backup I guess. Being such a labor intensive job I didn’t wanna take a chance of the valves slamming into the pistons like Wile E Coyote to a wall lol

I've never seen a dowel pin like that, especially since they should be hardened.

That one would have to be mighty soft to do that, IMO.

Also, is it normal for this hole to be down on the chamfer like this?

Maybe the rest is different, but the finish on the portion shown in your pics does not look that great to me.

I probably am wrong, somebody please correct me if I am.

It’s not…eBay sellers suck. But I ordered one from the Mopar store on Amazon. Hopefully it’s genuine

Would you please post side by side pics so we can see direct comparisons on the ebay and Amazon parts? Packaging, markings, finish on the lobes and bearing surfaces, etc.

I think it might help all of us down the line.

The part number in your info comes up on RockAuto as 5038419AB for almost the same price.

I would verify part number with dealer or at @AllMoparParts.com here using your VIN, and purchase accordingly.

Too much risk with counterfeit parts, and the crooks even copy the boxes. NGK plugs from Amazon is an example. Only buy from reputable sources when purchasing OE parts.
