Whaaaat??!!
i meant that i dont check the level of the oil. i do start the truck and make sure that there are no leaks and no alarms. just never thought to recheck the oil level on the dipstick after filling it up to the marks.

no i have not
i would start there

just for fun, where is it showing on the dipstick, right now?

at the risk of telling you something you allready know, the dipstick serves several purposes
it allows you to see the oil (check the color) smell it (excessive blow by might cause gas to get in the oil) but perhaps the most basic, it will tell you if you are "losing" oil (out the tail pipe, or dripping somewhere, who know)

it is good practice to check your oil each time you gas up

i believe in your case you may find your oil level is sitting lower then you might expect

New to the forum, hope i put this in the right thread, did a search and cant find the answer for a
2013 ram sport with 5.7, oil question.
ive had it a few years, always drained the oil with a cold motor on a flat level surface. once it stopped dripping, i plugged it up and removed the filter. filled the filter, replaced the filter and then started filling the oil up top. this truck always has taken about 5 quarts (1.25 gallon) jug. the oil is filled inbetween the dots in the cross hatched area on the dipstick.
Recently found out that these things are supposed to have a 6-7quart capacity??
what am i missing? no alarms, no low oil light. oil psi is in the low 30s at idle, low 50s at operation.
any advice would be much appreciated.
I think this has already been addressed, but if you don't start the engine after the oil change and then shut it down and let it sit for a few minutes your reading will be off. Mine always reads low if I do an oil change and don't start the engine before checking the level.

I usually add 7 quarts, drive around the block, let it sit for a bit, then check the level. It's usually perfect when I do that

On my 14 5.7 they replaced my dipstick at the Stealership due to a service campaign, now this was of course 10 years ago but it is possible you have the wrong dipstick. And yes, the correct oil capacity is 7 quarts.

If it makes you feel better, I was burning oil and didn't know it, my level was way low and I never got any kind of warning about oil pressure or low oil level. Now I check my oil every couple hundred miles

If you've never had a low pressure light, you're probably okay, but from now on,start adding 7 quarts, and "get in the habit of checking the oil on a weekly basis,or even less, maybe every couple days",it takes all of 2 minutes to check the oil,and might save you from having to buy an engine.
BTW how old are you?

I don't check the oil level on the last 2 trucks very often , as I don't put very many miles on any more.
Never had to add oil on these, but over the years ,lots of motors needed top up between oil changes. People have lost motors because they never checked oil and never look at the dash till the gas light comes on. One lady did not know what the red light was for, so she ran till it stopped, then pissed when warranty never covered the new motor.

Son in law worked in shop for a while, kid changed oil in customers car/ truck, I forget what it was , and he never checked the filter, and blew the gasket, that motor lasted 3 blocks in town.
Shop paid for a new motor, oil kid walked , likely works at Wal-Mart now.

Changing oil and never running and checking is just asking for trouble.
I don't remember changing oil on a cold motor in my all my years of oil changes, sometimes its a hassle, I have let it sit a bit till exhaust is not so hot depending on motor.

Better check the dipen stick, sound wrong.

Ram and Dodge had a batch of bad dipsticks in 2015 in certain models. My 2015 Durango 5.7 showed full at 6 quarts and at 7 showed it overfilled. I purchased the new dipstick after finding out about the dipstick issue on the challenger forum.

After changing the dipstick, all was well with the world.

If you have an AA or AB part number on the dipstick it has a high probability of being marked incorrectly.in anything with a 5.7 for 2015. Other years could be affected
Leave it to Chrysler to mess up a simple dipstick

Kinda sounds like OP, U have the wrong dipstick. Changing filter, drain oil, and then only put in 5 quarts in a 7 quart capacity system, I would be surprised to see any oil hit the dipstick much.

And yes, after checking and verifying no leaks. Run for a few minutes, let sit for at least 5 minutes, 10 a better number. Pull dipstick, WIPE off, re-insert and check level. Should be pretty close to the full line, or maybe just a bit over. That be OK. But if yer dipstick is f-ubar, U need to get another one, as in correct one, IMHO...

Hemi's oil capacity on change and replace filter on the 5.7L have been 7 quarts for eons.

With this truck, I have had the dealer change the oil since new, so they may have changed the stick if it was wwrong and never said anything. My last one it had a "free" ( prepaid) service from the fellow that bought it, so some they did , later I did it myself.

We use to have a tanker truck come around and collect your used oil off the farm.

My 13 & 14 RAm both held 6 quarts the 17 & 19 both take 7 quarts. Strange?

Check out this URL, I would go off of this, but just IMHO. I think U got a 2013 dipstick but not for the 5.7L motor.

I really dislike that system. My brothers bmw was like that. When the light came on he added a litre and waited to see if the light would clear. Not mechanically inclined and didn't realize the size of the oil pan leak. When the motor seized he knew 1l wasn't enough.
