Look at below attachment, somebody is selling an old rotary on E Bay for $320? WTF over.

I used to have a thing for collecting telephones, I'm certain I have a dial-type or 2 somewhere.

Maybe, I should dig them out and list them on ebay, at prices like that.

Mom had the ole Kitchen White in Color Mounted on the wall ole Rotary Monster in the house. You know, the one everyone had in the kitchen with like a 30' cord, that always after a while got tangled up in knots, LOL. And she had one other phone, a "pink" princess rotary in the bedroom. I am not sure, I think when she passed she still had the ole pink one, but the kitchen one had been replaced with "push button", as the ole rotary just wore out, and also I think the phone company made her upgrade it.

Ours worked differently. Only your phone number would make your phone ring, but if a neighbor was using it you couldn't receive a call and if you picked up your receiver you'd hear their conversation. It was actually useful for us because you could call yourself if you had multiple phones on the property. We had a phone in the barn and in the house. The downside was you had no idea when, or if, they answered the other phone. You'd dial your own number, hang up, let it ring 5 times, then pick up and see if the person on the other end had picked up. If not, repeat. If still no answer, time to walk there. Two rings and a hang up meant lunch/dinner was ready.

I'm old enough to remember candlestick phones. If anyone remembers a TV series The Untouchables, they'll know what I'm talking about.

I have one of those we took out of my mother-in-laws house after my father-in-law died ,and she moved in with us . He had it in his work shop , I suspect it was one of the original phones they had when they bought their home in 1953 . It has a pretty good coat of fiberglass epoxy from him building wood canoes ,and coating them with that stuff that would be on his hands when he'd answer the phone . :) I'd post a picture of it if I was home ,but won't be for another couple weeks .

IIRC, I thought I saw a date inside of 1939 but, it has been a few years since I've had it open.

They're quite an impressive device for the day.
A cast aluminum body with a stamped steel base and what appears to be leather-coated feet.

And the dial assembly is so smooth compared to the type 500-style phone sets like the tb56 pic. It sounds almost like a clock when using the dial.

It weighs 6 pounds. LOL

Is yours the same colour scheme?

In the original farm house, my maternal granddad still had one of the box-on-the-wall style with the microphone attached to the box and a separate ear piece that hung up on the side. It was old and the more modern handsets, both wall and table top, were much more common, but since it worked my granddad never replaced it. He'd built a 'modern' house elsewhere on the property and that one was mostly used as a summer kitchen/canning place and a guy's getaway from the women spot in the winter. I learned to pitch pennies and to be careful with opening a wood stove capable of a backdraft there...

I remember what a big deal it was when cordless phones came out, followed shortly by "where's the damn phone?" when it would ring because whoever used it last hadn't put it back on the base and the *base* was the bit that rang.
