You mean 315's ??, My Falken AT3W are wearing down like Iron at 1/32 every 5k miles so far. Sometimes i wish they will wear down faster so i can try something else :) I run the tires at 36 psi and wear is even across all 5 tires. If your outer lugs are wearing down faster you have too much toe-in or too much + camber or both, though i recall you had used tires so perhaps the previous owner had them that way already and they're just dying quicker following the same path.

I'm keeping a log of the tires here: https://www.ramforum.com/threads/falken-at3w-315-70-17-e-rated-my-review.129308/

Further up in this thread you mentioned that you had funky wear from tires on stock rims. I should have specified a bit. I believe it was in reference to your jeep....possibly.

These don't seem to crown but maybe I'll drop pressure a bit more. They did have a bit of un even wear, so I may be exacerbating it, my alignment was pretty spot on aside from a little low castor around 4*

These are definitely another tire I'm not a big fan of that are popular along with bfgs these are meh.

Ah yes, the issue you'll find is the tire wears down more towards the center and paralel to the width of the wheel while the outer edges don't seem to affected. As you speed up in the fwy the tires will ballon out and the edges that seem to be in in contact with the ground with the vehicle parked, are not playing the same role at 75mph, so your outer edges will barely wear down.

That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure if that's the issue you were referring to. Been a while since I ran stock wheels with balloons on them. Hoping this rotation flattened the rear out enough I'll be able to gauge wear a bit more. Still might drop down sizes, I sure do miss the super high mpg....i got spoiled by 25+

Youll be happy with 285/75/17, close to a 35 and better rolling resistance.
So instead of burying a conversation in the everyday thread I'll revive my old thread on this topic.

In regards to the tire certs, I'm 100% doing this. Especially with how much job site crap I see tire punctures are way too common.

I'm still torn. At this point, 315s are appealing just for the variety of choices I have, and I personally think they look great. After much reading it seems that dropping to 285s won't gain me much in MPG, or drivability changes but will have better mannerisms in snow and heavy rain. Im going to go with cooper at3 xlts since they are the most mild/highway biased tread with good aesthetics. I spend almlst 100% of my time driving on highways. The coopers spec at about 62lbs and 34.3" for 315s. And 57lbs and 33.8" on the 285s. Price is within 30$/ea between the two so that's not a factor.

Some times the 315s looks huge and stuffed and others they look great. Opposite with 285s, some pics they look small and others look good. I never thought I would ever overthink something so much lol

285/75/17 are about 1/2" smaller than most 315/70/17's. So that's only 1/4" at the diff. But when you look at your truck they might appear smaller than most 315's equipped vehicles and it's because the tire is skinnier. Get a little fatty tire and they look bigger. Don't know how flexible your tire shop is but in my case i've been doing bussines with my local Americas Tires for at least 15 years and i can ask them to test fit 2-3 different tires/wheels until i find the ones i like.

I still like 315's over the 285's visually but the difference in height in reality wouldn't be a lot. Get whatever you like the most after all you'll be looking at her fitted with new shoes for a while. i've been in the situation where i didnt like the smaller size so having a long relation with your tire shop have its benefits and free bigger replacementss no questions asked :)

This covid thing really put a damper on things, idk if my offroad shop will allow me in. I known they've been doin drop off appointment only. I'll have to reach out to my buddy and see if they have the sizes in stock so I can compare.

The width of the 315s makes them look huge, and I love that look. But I also am at the point where my jeep is the rig for everything i need maximum tire size. Commuting like I do I actually was gonna trade the ram in on a car but I'm upside down way to much, so I'm just looking to balance the cool vs practical factor.

That and honestly I'm just bored, I've been working a ton and have had a few issues with my house I've been ******* with, so these stupid inner debates are my break from the whirlwind of reality.

This should make your decision easier. Honestly based on your needs 285/75/17 should make you happier. The difference in width will be more evident mounted than height. The difference at the diff is only 1/4" so you're not loosing offroad clearance and having 1" less witdh should in theory be better in the snow.

Thanks for the link. I've been doin Google searches and just reading, but unfortunately alot of the links redirect to tapatalk from my browser and the pics end up corrupt or broken. I've got a little time, the tire gets air every morning and I'm gonna run it a little longer. I heard nitto was releasing another update on the terra graps so I was hoping to see how they looked before I bought tires. The Toyos are being reported as pretty loud right out of the box and this time around in trying to go a little less noisy as these duratracs drone pretty good.

I do think you're right, the width gives an illusion of added height, albeit it's actually the depth of the tires.

My brain wants 37s and a 1.5" body lift, but that would be just silly to commute with, no matter how perfect that would look.
