FCA emissions recall 67A

I got caught up in the VW 3.0 TDI defeat device/ scandal with a Touareg my wife had. We took the $11k and had is reprogrammed by the dealer. It began shifting much higher in the RPM range and lost a couple MPG. It also had increase DEF fluid usage. I think it lost 10hp and 15 ft/lbs of torque if I remember correctly. Behaved more like a gasser with less lugging around in low RPM. Hopefully the Cummins fix isn’t like that, wouldn’t be good for a heavy duty truck. Too bad they aren’t compensating the truck owners for diminished performance if there is any. I’m guessing there is some politics involved with stapling a German company’s ass to the wall vs an American company like Cummins.

Well based on the eco-diesel fiasco, I think anyone who has skepticism about this recall is justified. Whether it results in unintended consequences remains to be seen. Some have had issues almost immediately afterwards, while others claim no impact. If the Extended warranty pans out, then I think I'll take chance as I'm nearing the end of My Emissions warranty.

Technically yes, but they'll only do it under specific certain conditions in such cases as if it is involved in theft. IIRC requirements consist of Police report filed, the owner on the phone with a Uconnect Operator, and a LEO tailing the vehicle.
I believe it is written in the policy somewhere or on the Uconnect website.

Reading a lot of these, I'll add my bit. Had my 2016 2500 in for the emissions software update, now the truck does NOT pass smog and therefore the truck can't complete it's DMV reg. OBD is not reading the O2 sensor. Dealer says I need to drive it 1 - 2 K miles. So here we are 2500 miles later, OBD is STILL not reading the O2 sensor. I'd like to know where my share of the 1.6 BILLION settlement dollar is. My cost per mile, and now a trip to DMV to get an extension to my registration should warrant more than a 10% discount on my next oil change. Crap like this does not bode well for future sales of Ram or Cummins.

I would figure your dealer will play hardball, A fellow on the cummins forum had to pay out of pocket for repair after the recall. BTW, that warranty they keep touting as Good reason to get the recall hasn't panned out for anyone yet. Several folks have checked and even RAMCARES did a run on a vin and no extra warranty is supplied with the recall at this point, your experience may vary.

Just had mine done. No issues so far. However, 1 thing that the Service Advisor should absolutely tell you, is GET THE TRUCK SMOGGED FIRST!!! I did get the truck smogged before the PCM update. No problems.
K Price - the problem you are having is whenever the computer is flashed, or even if codes are cleared, it clears the emissions monitors. It can take up to 70 hours of driving for all those monitors to fully reset. You can pass smog as long as no more than 2 monitors are not reset.

Got the 67A recall letter couple days ago. Here's my concern. Cummins 1.6 billion fine alleges Cummins installed "types of devices to cheat federal environmental laws". Defeat devices are designed to "bypass, defeat, or render inoperative emissions controls such as emission sensors and onboard computers. So what does the 67A emission recall have to do with the alleged types of installation of defeat devices? It may just be the timing of the 67A emissions "PCM" update that people are thinking it's related to the Cummins 1.6 billion fine. If not, then the next question is what is coming later as far as mandates to removing said defeat devices? I saw on YouTube video of the guy that test drove and pulling his tractor on trailer after he had the 67A emissions recall done which only updated the PCM software and he had no change in truck performance of any kind. California residence must comply or will not be able to re-register their trucks. It's the only state so far I am aware of that has implemented such mandate. I suspect in order keep any vehicle warrantee good, one must comply with the 67A recall for emission update in order to show proper maintenance. My warrantee is over anyways so right now I'm on the fence about doing it, especially if there seems to be no change or effect on performance, until I hear more on how it affects others and what other mandates and or recalls may be coming. Besides, DEQ testing for registration in my town is exempt for all Heavy Duty Diesel trucks or GVWR > 8,500, so there is really no need for me to comply with the 67A emissions recall.

My letter came Friday. It spells out the Extended Warranty and what parts are covered (not all for 2018 down).
To me it was just an enticement letter to get you to comply and have it done. Hard sell when the truck runs perfectly fine with no issues in 50k+ miles. Why would anyone take that chance of it screwing up?

I got the snail mail version of the recall earlier this year, and of course ignored it since it was titled Emissions Recall Notice. Got an email version yesterday with the subject Urgent Safety Notification...

I can't imagine how this has anything to do with safety, but it's URGENT!

I have no desire to do this and am facing registration renewal in a couple months - and I live in Commiefornia. However, I may not have to do it because according to CARB it is not mandatory to register. This is a snip from the document, but the whole document is attached for those interested.



The truck has zero problems and none ever that were emissions related, so you can imagine my reluctance after hearing of a number of cases of things breaking after the reflash.

I called FCA and started a case.
I asked them about issues , codes, etc from the update.
Also I been hearing some extended warranty applied to the whole emissions system and they didn't know anything about that either.
They did ask me to schedule and appointment 3 times during our conversation.
I told them to supply me with more information and incentive, lol..
Let's see what response I get hack.
I have already taken my SCR out, and ammonia catalyst once. To replace DEF sensor cause the bolt heads were so rusty I had to grind the heads off to remove them .

I have the 2020 2500 Larmie 6.7 and had a 90A recall done last week. any info on this it took them 6 hours and they ran it 15 miles and over a 1/4 take of diesel Told me that the def tank needed to be drained and a new pump installed. When I picked it up they said they had to re tune the computer WTF

IF as you say Cummins cares (@ CumminsEngines) then maybe Cummins should inform/tell us what the problem(s) are with so many 2022 engines having so many regen & oil growth problems ( aka fuel in the oil with contamination at or above 5%) example one of our members Dinky is having major oil growth problem that no one at Ram can fix... BTW his truck is one of many 2022 engines who are having regen problems....
