I have found enough info that supports 98+ had it, what I also see is upgrade stickers to those years as well. Sticker's just a info tag saying some type of software upgrade was done, do believe there are a few diff types and versions of the death flash.

Still have that rattling noise. Decided to pull the oil pan off to inspect things. Found no metal shavings in the pan. Sump pump filter is clean. Oil pressure when warm idling is 35-40psi. Push rods and rocker arms seemed fine upon inspection. Valves maybe?

Okay, I took a video that shows the noise it is making. Better than the previous video I posted. This is after new lifters are installed. Still making the same noise it did before. Sounds like a diesel. Read the description of the video and you'll see I also checked the oil pan for metal shavings in case there was a bad main or rod bearing. Did not find anything abnormal. Anyone else ever experience this same sound? Motor seems to run strong and has good oil pressure. Thinking maybe rocker arms or push rods? I torqued the rocker arms to spec. Maybe cracked valves or something? I'm running out of ides from my realm of knowledge.

Great wonderful news, I found the problem. Time for a rebuild :/ Rod bearings are toast.

Got the time and money to do a junkyard 360 build up?

Rebuild isn't all that bad if you have the time.. and money. Maybe you can make something better out of this?

I'm going to see if the crank is salvageable. Have it ground and straightened and put new over sized bearings in. First I have to get my hands on a engine hoist and stand. Pulling the motor shouldn't be too bad seeing how much room is in the engine bay. I have the money, time eh depends on a new job. But I'm thinking if I can rebuild seeing the motor has 100k and I don't want to get a used one with more miles. I'll install a bigger cam, maybe port the heads, we'll see. I'll probably start a new thread of the rebuild/build progress.

I removed the rest of the rod bearings. Was only the one that was in really rough shape. rest are okay, couple are on the questionable side and a few are just peachy.

Hmm wonder what caused only the one to go. Yea if you have the time and funds this is the perfect oppurtunity for a 360 build and drop. Bigger cam, ported heads will be nice :) maybe upgrade intake mani too? The kegger will still choke it off at high rpms. So many options :)
