Im torn between the Magnaflow 24" and FM 50HD, I want loud at WOT, no drone, but a nice sound over stock. I hate loud slow trucks, I dont want loud that will wake the neighbors or give me a headache on long trips tho..

I am also thinking of the Magnaflow 22", however Mufflex does not make a kit :flipthebird:. I would rather the Magnaflow over FM only because I like the sound of new V8's with glass pack mufflers, the high compression sounds really nice, I heard a SRT Challenger whip buy and I was convinced I wanted that sound (I could tell he had magnaflow), but then again a new 5.0 with a FM drove by and I thought that sounded really good to.

I want to get everyones opinion on this, im trying to narrow down the 24" 22" or FM50HD. Like I said I dont want stupid loud where you can hear me comming from 2 blocks away, or where its annoying at idle.

Most of the guys here will vote for the magnaflow. Because of its straight thru design and stainless steel finish. I have the flowmaster 70 big block and I get many compliments on the sound of my truck. I had the magnaflow 14 and 18. I thought they were pretty loud but others think it's too quiet. You will get different opinions on both mufflers.

Yeah, in a N/A motor with 3" exhaust, and no other mods I could care less of straight through design or not, and the technology in a chambered muffler is the same flow as straight through for a N/A motor, you will actually not loose any torque because of the back pressure like you would in a Magnaflow.

I was thinking of the 70 FM, but with an aluminum muffler it would last maybe 2 years here in NewEngland, and it would be hard to find a shop to match it up.

Just getting opinions to help make my decision, or help confuse me more lol

You can get the flowmaster in stainless steel as well. Just costs a bit more than magnaflow.

after doing some testing on a stock 2000 transam about 10 years ago
nothing else changed but the mufflers, the power difference was so minimal its funny
mufflers are noise makers at this power level pick the one that sounds the best
I went with the direct bolt in flowmaster 50 HD
its stainless steel and sounds amazing.

Yeah, im not looking for performance. Please dont make this thread about performance. I'm not the guy that thinks mufflers, catch cans, and intakes increase performance.. :)

Hope you don't mind if I piggy back your thread...

I too am thinking about my upcoming new exhaust.

I tow with my setup so that is the biggest factor.

What I'd LIKE to hear is like the old late '80's style 5.0 mustangs.
I know in Kentucky (it was always Camaro or Mustangs - I had both :D) and everyone always ran "Flows" ("50" series? iirc).

Well, that low rumble is what I'm after.

I don't like the "glass pack" sound. I like a rumble.

What are the options?

The sound of a magnaflow 18 inch is pretty much the same as the 22 inch. Maybe a bit quieter on idle. But the same open throttle. Lots of YouTube videos of the 18 inch.

I would run out right now and take a sound clip, except I have a bad header leak and my truck sounds like a 1988 Suburban right now. :(

I say magnaflow 24" or 22". I have the mufflex 24 and its plenty loud at WOT but not obnoxious driving normally. It has a nice deep tone to it which fits a truck nicely. Its definitely quite a bit louder than stock. Drone on the highway with MDS is definitely more noticeable than stock but not terrible.

I have the 50hd and never looked at anything.. Still have the stock tails.. Imo, chambered mufflers give that hemi the distinct sound..

I thinking of getting the magnaflow 14. Does anyone run one of these or have a sound clip.
