Tune + trans is $1500? Tune, PCM, programmer.
This is on par with that, no?

Called around. Looks like labor is $450 and new MMX cam is $620 for this setup @ 30hp. So, $1070. That's cheaper than a tune, programmer, and pcm swap ($1500). Thoughts?

First, I know there is better and more power cams that require a tune. But, a cam swap and you get 30hp and no tune is required has me looking at it. Anyone running it yet? MMX said per chat 2009+ 5.7l. 30hp/tq gain.

I think that's an excellent offering. In fact I might go that route first because of a few reasons

Don't have to pull the heads
Don't have to change valve springs.
Don't need the top end rebuild kit.

Then when I'm ready for that stroker kit I can do all the above later along with another cam to fit the stroker motor profile.

Ya, I am really thinking about it

Would need to see a dyno slip, if you're losing 30hp/30trq down low under 3000RPM where a truck needs the power and gaining it up top that's a downgrade IMO.

Probably meant for the R/T cars...

Not sure if they have a graph or not, but in the description says "This camshaft has added 30 Wheel HP to our 2019 Ram 1500 5.7 Laramie, as well as a noticeable increase in low end torque."

Per convo (what's its worth) MMX said all gains are "where the factory specs are".

Per chat convo, MMX said the tq and hp increase was about the same. I asked in top rpm range or? He replied both in the factory cam rpm range.

Duration and separation angle similar with more lift to keep the PCM happy, 30/30 on a stock motor seems optimistic...

To the tires, doubtful... That's why they don't put guarantees on the box any more Tommy Boy.

Says to the tires "This camshaft has added 30 Wheel HP". I asked for dyno slip. We'll see. Ill post if they send one.

30 is probably with other bolt-ons like headers.

30/30 really isn't that hard to believe when the high lift tuned version are producing 70whp with supporting mods.

Looks like they offer it as a MDS delete cam to.I'm guessing that one would need a tune of some sort ,otherwise it would probably turn on a light/code for the MDS. I'd like to see a dyno sheet to,as it'd have to be a torque monster down low,to add any horsepower to the equation at the factory 5600 rpm limiter

I really don't get this desire to avoid a tune. Anything worth doing is going to require a tune. Anything else is just :manos:

Been there, done that with many engines. Newer truck, low miles, small increase in lift and duration, OEM valve springs are probably ok. Higher mileage (I'd say 40k+ which isn't really high for stock cam design) I would swap out the valve springs. These motors run beehive springs, they are spec'd for a certain rpm range and compatibility with the lifters. Serious power gains are made by increasing lift and that costs $$$$. BY the time you swap out cam ,lifters (pull the heads) springs, pushrods retainers, you'll be pushing $2K in parts plus labor if you don't do the job yourself. At that point, having it tuned doesn't really add much more cost.

They have the truck on youtube. I don't believe it has headers. Muffler was removed and cai only.
