I bought a 2014 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi 126,000 miles about a month ago. The motor seemed quiet when I bought but now I hear a tick sound. Someone said change the oil and put Royal Purple High performance 5w-20 Premium motor oil it it. Has anyone used this oil in a 5.7 Hemi? I was told this oil made the tick go away. So should I try it or not?

Read the note at the bottom, you might want to step up to 5W-30 instead.
It's Royal Purple 20-820 filter and Redline 5W-30.

The 5w-20 is strictly for milege, not engine longevity. That note is in the big 700 page manual for my 14.Throw in the fact your truck is a high milege truck,so bearings will be getting looser. You can run 5W-20 if you want, but 5W-30 Redline has the rep of being Hemi Honey,it's your call, but with close to 130,000 miles,i'd seriously consider going to a 5W-30,especially if you have a tick.An engine tick is usually the precursor to needing a cam and lifters in short order, and a light oil won't be doing you any favours.Hopefully your tick is an exhaust manifold tick, but if it's an internal engine tick, the best thing you can do is try an oil strategy

^^^^ THIS!!!
OP, you came on here asking for advice, so, please take the advice of really knowledgeable people on these matters.

5W30 Red Line High Performance synthetic oil and a top quality synthetic media oil filter like the Royal Purple 20-820 (if you can find them), or the Fram XG2.

The 20-820 will fit your 14. Ask Burla what he thinks about royal purple oil,as he's up on oils way more then me,if he says it's okay,go for it,but i've never had any love for it.I'd run Pennzoil Ultra Platinium and a bottle of lube gard before royal purple, but that's just my opinion.
The biggest thing with a hemi,is not to run long oil change intervals change oil in it every 4,000 to 5,000 miles

RP 20-820 is still available on Amazon and imo a great price for what you get. You need this filter, buy a 6 pack trust me.

If you want to try RP oil I say ok, try it, it might stop the tick, might not. The good news is even if it doesn't kill the tick, you can dump 15 ounces biotech without changing oil or filter. So you have 2 chances at killing the tick, read the threads in my sig. I would try 5w30 RP if that was what I was going to do. If it works, you found your strategy don't change anything.

So you have the best filter for flow and longevity, and now you have 2 chances to kill that tick with 50% proven success rate. If both of those fail to get the tick, redline 5w30 is the nuclear option, 80% success rate sold on Amazon or direct.

1/2 of ticks are lifter related, 1/2 are exhaust related, no oil will fix it if it is exhaust related. Both tend to tick at start up. If none of the 3 options even changed your tick, I would spend a lot of time figuring out if exhaust bolts are loose.

Use Owner's Manual recommendation for the oil and and Lubegard.
The owners manual says 5W-30 is okay to use, read the note at the bottom.
