Simply a combination of my life long attitude of being able to look out for yourself and living in rural Montana. I just got my first cell phone since I retired in '06 - my Wife bought it for me as a gift. It works with the truck which makes it easy to use and hear. I may even join AAA. Not being known for patience, I'd rather try to solve my own problem than wait for someone to come and do it for me. I have all sorts of stuff on standby to handle survival type problems, most of it unused. If it is unused when I shuffle off it will still have been worthwhile for the peace of mind owning it delivered.
I like the way the truck looks now so any storage of the spare will need to be invisible from the outside.
Then it sounds like you're using the factory under bed mount for the spare,or leaving it laying flat in the box, with the limitations you're putting on it.
Good luck with your endevour, take pictures of whatever you come up with,as they may help out another member

Long story - hate the original, under truck storage due to a long, dark, cold experience with a flat in the middle of nowhere. I run 285/60/R20. The other spare remains as original 275 - apparently close enough to get me home, but I will have a 285 in the bed. Just need to find a reasonable way to secure it. The majority of my driving is on the road, paved or gravel so it should be possible.

When the under the bed carrier rusted apart on an old Chevy I had, I simply stood the spare up on the side near the cab and used an old fashioned GM tie down that is just a threaded rod with an hook on the end and a big wind nut. No drilling, just caught the lip with the end of the ell and tightener it down snug. It never moved or damaged the rail. Bet you can get those bolts for small bucks at the auto parts. I've yet to try to get the spare down on my RAM. I probably should, but I've not had a blowout on the road in over 40 years. Tires these days are a hella lot better than they used to be.

I see a lot of massive front bumpers on trucks. Fabricate a deer killer tire holding front bumper and make all your friends jealous

….I've yet to try to get the spare down on my RAM. I probably should, but I've not had a blowout on the road in over 40 years. Tires these days are a hella lot better than they used to be.
I’ve dropped the spare on my ‘24 Ram 2500…and it’s not “civilized”. It can be fairly easily lowered to the ground ….IF…IF you can get the winch engaged with the hollow, sheet-metal winch-driver (“extension tubes”) … the tubes don’t always slip into proper position with the spare-tire winch system….

The instructions state that the winch cable is sufficiently long to allow the spare tire to drop to the ground and allow you to pull the tire out from beneath the truck.
Good luck with that , especially if you’re wearing nice clothes.

While reading the Owners Manual, I was dissapointed to see that the “Full Size Spare” I paid for…. is actually NOT the same size as the tires on the wheels. The spare steel wheel on my truck is 18” while my main wheels are 20”… … I don’ t know about all You Guys….. but to ME… FULL SIZE means the SAME SIZE.
The REASON for a FULL SIZE spare is to enable one to continue one’s trip normally without restriction. But….it’s NOT FOR THAT according to the Owners Manual… It’s actually a “Reduced Tread-Life Tire”.

HERE’s A QUOTE FROM THE MANUAL:

“The full size spare is for temporary emergency use only.
This tire may look like the originally equipped tire on the
front or rear axle of your vehicle, but it is not…
….
Since it is not the same as your original equipment tire, replace (or repair) the original equipment tire and reinstall on the vehicle at the first opportunity.”

I consider that not much better than those toy COMPACT or TEMPORARY spares.

GRRrrrrr… :killer:
