Its also crazy to me that Hellcats are driving around at ~208 coolant temps
If you do the 885 horse upgrade on a Hellcat, one of the first things they send in the kit is a 180 thermostat to replace the factory 203 t-stat,even my buddies 2018 808 horse Demon had a 203 thermostat in it,and he's running the 840 horse pcm upgrade. After having 2 thermostats fail closed in his 1000 horse Red Eye and 1320,all his late model toys got swapped to thermostat delete plates.

So you're saying there's a Mopar part number for that 180 thermostat somewhere

Not sure how you got a 180 thermostat from the delete plates in that post.

Usually only the Direct Connection dealers can get it.
It's part of the 1st stage upgrade .

The part where he said "one of the first things they send in the kit is a 180 thermostat"?

797 3/4" ID plate is working excellent in my 5.7. 185 degrees steady running 75 mph or less. 75 mph and up, stop and go traffic, it will creep to 190 degrees max. Ambient temps 77 - 100F. This restrictor plate along with Caulk tranny bypass are the best two mods IMO that can be done to the stock setup. Thanks again to those who pointed out these thermostat restrictor plates.

Thats great news, thank you for the update!

No thermostat rationality codes yet?

Update: Got the first P0128 code the other day. Funny thing, Alfa did not pick up the code, but torque Pro did...cleared it. Coolant still maxes out at 185° F during normal driving below 75 mph. Sustained runs of 80 mph (toll roads) for 30 minutes or longer coolant creeps to 190° F max. I'll clear the code if/when it returns and thinking about installing the smaller ID plate (5/8") and give it a go thru our mild fall/winter/spring season.

Heres the code set criteria for P0128.

Looks like its looking for 190⁰ to be reached by a predetermined time and if it doesn't reach 190 by that time, it sets the code

A few guys who've got the thermostat rational code have said after clearing it a couple times,it usually doesn't come back.
I've never had the code pop up in anything i've stuck a 180 in,and that's quite a few vehicles now,so it's very hit or miss on whether you'll get the code or not.
I've started to wonder if it might have anything to do with whether the vehicle is parked outside or inside

Same here, I've ran 180s before and never had this code pop. My truck lives outside so like you said IDK if that has anything to do with it.

But all the 180 tstats I've run hit 190+ on the first opening of the tstat and then settle at 185ish. So mine always hit the magical 190 threshold before dropping below 190

There's several cars running around here with thermostat deletes in them, and as far as i've heard none of them have had the code pop up,but all are parked inside, which is when i started to wonder if that had anything to do with keeping the code at bay.
The 2016 SRT 392 Challenger i've been working on lately has had a thermostat delete since last spring, and i figure that car was a good test,as Dan fires it up and uses it to drive his daughter to school which is only maybe about 1.5 miles from his house, then comes home ,he uses the car alot for short trips around town, where it hardly gets up to operating temp, and it's never once thrown a code, but the car is always parked inside

Interesting, its like certain PCM calibrations have different parameters for setting that code than others. You would think something like this that could potentially be tied to emissions would be similar on all calibrations for the same motor.

But yeah, this was my main concern with running the restrictor plates...

I'd bet that it has as much, or possibly more to do with the state of the cooling system itself.

Given all the posts here on the forum by people having cooling system concerns, reporting numbers that are all over the place, yet still considered normal, it's seems to me that there is a pretty big performance variation from truck to truck.

Mine runs 192*, pretty much all the time. Occasionally it'll get up to 205*ish while towing, in summer, up Snoqualmie pass. Others commonly run 215-220*, downhill, in a tailwind, in winter.

I'd bet that some cooling systems take a lot longer to reach the pcm's programmed threshold, and others much quicker.

P0128 popped again...cleared it for the second time. Going on day two since cleared, no code yet with 200 miles and several start stops. I am going to keep the 3/4" plate in and keep on clearing and trucking along. Truck hits 185° F coolant temp within 10 miles of cold start and stays there all day, unless I run it hard, 80 mph+ for long periods of time. Oil temps are averaging 10 degrees F cooler with the plate. I am a big fan.

Edit: Im running the 3/4" plate not 5/8". Edited above.
