When do you guys think the ATF should be changed on a 2014 Ram 1500 Hemi. It has about 60000 miles on it. Also, what trpe of fluid should you use and should the filter be changed as well? Seems to be working fine, thanks in advance.
What transmission do you have? 8 speed is a dial shifter, the 6 speed is either a column or console shifter, either transmission would be due for a service, but they use differant fluids

Thanks, that's great to know.

I recall cork gaskets on something I worked on as a kid, they're definitely useless.
And, back to the PPE pan, I go. I likely won't need anything for about 4 years.

.
Those damn cork gaskets....they were a solution years ago. Old "technology" and definitely a source for future leaks (and not very far into the future). The o-ring/bossed seal is superior in every regard.

You have to seal the cork gaskets before using them, if you do, you should be good to go.

It has a console shifter, not a Dial.

Cork was never a solution on GM valve covers! They were sensitive to over torqueing, terrible to remove old ones, and leaked soon after installation.

I have a passionate hate for Cork gaskets, lol. No matter how well you glued them and how careful you were with tightening them down, they'd still leak with-in a year or 2.

They were the "service your transmission" indicator. You were gonna need to service it again in a year or 2 anyway.

Is this the item you purchased?

According to the listing, it holds an additional 4 quarts of fluid over the OEM pan. That sounds great as long as you're not using the Mopar Unicorn oil.

I'll have to investigate the Valvoline MaxLife cost up here. I still have about 40K miles before I'll be ready.

For other members up here;

$60/5 litres

.
Yup, I got like 2 filters off ebay for down the road for $4 shipped (TOTAL!) and they are filtran brand so good quality.

I also picked up the maxlife (3 1gal jugs) off amazon when I got the pan 6m ago.

You guys use gaskets? You could just RTV that bad boy and be done with it. I've used cork, rubber trans pan gaskets without much issue and if you wanted you could cut the lip off of the stock style gasket. I honestly wouldnt feel bad about RTVing the pan to the trans after checking filter clearance. I used to run header gaskets but I learned if you have a flat header flange RTV makes a better seal than most gaskets except the remflex which are my go too.

Just fyi....I had my rear tires about 18 inches off the ground...from tires on ground to level the transmission. I didn't measure it but it was alot. This will very depending on your truck....long bed, short bed, lift kit, 2 door, 4 door, tires, etc. I have a two inch front leveling kit so that would mean the rear of the truck had to go higher. Just be sure and use good jack stands and double up for safety. I had my wife in he truck running through the gears and calling out the transmission temperature of the dash readout. Best as a two person job. Having a cheap pump to transfer the fluid is the only way to go.
