Dodge/Ram dealerships are incompetent.

The only way to get your truck diagnosed and repaired properly is to do it yourself. I bought a 2014 ecodiesel with 130k miles on it. I was going on a trip from FL to NY, so i had the dealer do an oil change and rotate tires. when i went to pick up vehicle the bill was 600. The oil change and rotate tires was 300, they did the high pressure fuel pump and flash computer recall while it was there. than they charged me 283 to "drain water from water separator and replace the fuel filter. 63.95 to drain water, 200 for fuel filter. when i got it back, the fuel pump was missing it's cover (which has the calibrations for the injectors on it), the heat sock on the EGR tube was pulled back all the way and never returned to it's original position, the oil was a quart over full, the foam thats under the engine (i assume to quiet down diesel)cover was gone no fluids were topped off, and the tires were only rotated front to back on drivers side (the tires on passenger side were untouched). The reason i even looked was because the check engine light came on with an EGR code.
Here is the problem:
1) the recall includes replacing the fuel filter and water separator housing and fuel filter itself (which includes draining the water) which the housing wasn't done.
2) in pulling back the heat sock on the EGR tube exposed the plastic vacuum tube going to the EGR valve and melted it. this is why the engine light came on. I fixed the vacuum tube myself, i pushed the sock back to where it was supposed to be cleared the code, went back to the dealer to have the cover for the fuel pump put on and have the extra quart of oil drained and have the foam piece put back. I know it wasn't the my cover for the fuel pump that was on there originally(mine was clean) (which means wrong calibration codes) and have the foam piece that was gone replaced, they were not going to replace the foam piece, they said i don't need it.
3) I drove to NY and on the way the engine light came on DEF code and the countdown to won't restart ended up counting down to WONT RESTART SEE DEALER. I changed the pump and injector for the DEF myself. the codes went away, but it still states won't restart on the dash (which i bypassed on my own). I drove 1500 miles with no codes, not even soft codes, yet the "won't restart" would not go away. it's still there.
4) I brought back to dealer and told them they need to reflash the PCM, because thier flash didn't take properly. they would not do it. they had their "diesel mechanic" there and he took out his witech crap and pulled codes to find out there were none for 1500 miles. I also explained to them that they charged me for a fuel filter AND draining the water separator, which was included in the recall. they told me that they would refund my money for the water drain and fuel filter ($283), but i would haveto drop off on monday for them to diagnose the won't restart. I said it better not cost me anything, the service writers response was "don't worry you have a credit". in turn i said i will not be dropping it off on monday and give me my refund (which actually took them 3 weeks to do). oh and last but not least the "mechanic" drained the crankcase to under MIN. I just bought a quart and filled it properly, but holy cow, he had to know i would check.
I am a certified master tech in medium and heavy duty trucks, master certified in automobiles, certified in diesel performance, and parts, undercar, and a whole bunch of others (35 all together). i've seen alot of incompetence in the automotive field ( been in it since 1976, went into computers in 2007) Dodge/Ram takes the cake. I will never darken the doorways of ANY Ram dealer again.

From what i see, the mechanics are not trained properly, they are just part changers that make YOU pay for their incompetence.

It's not just Dodge/Ram. There is a tech shortage across the industry and it's hurting everyone. My wife's Expedition went to dealer for the cam phasers which fortunately for us was done properly but their lube tech couldn't figure out the fumoto drain valve I installed because he broke the plastic cap and the plastic locking clip. When I changed the oil I had to use an oil filter wrench because he had over tightened the filter. Took me 30 mins to get the filter off. Not good when they can't even do an oil change properly.

The state of the industry is such that many dealers have one or two certified, highly trained techs present that help guide the shop full of parts changers and lube rack bozos. I know two dealer techs that make north of $100K annual, and they spend a large part of their time telling the other clowns how to do jobs. This is the reason the dealers have gone to the team pay system. If it were still individualized, one or two guys would make a ton of money, the other clowns would make beans, and a lot of the work wouldn't get done. Want to fix this? Start in the public school system....Bring back technical education, instead of pushing every kid toward a degree in gender studies.

That is the truth in school they do not teach them the basics, now its teach them how to read a computer and if the computer does not tell you well i guess they are out of luck.. I see 3rd and 4th year that i know 100 times more, i have never pulled professionally just on my own junk and a few years working on heavy duty as part of my job. You try to help these guys and they look at you like you are stupid and they are thinking they are a 4th year you can't teach me anything.

Agreed, it's not just Ram. Let me tell you about my 2010 Traverse. Power mirrors didn't work, but they offered to fix them since I had just bought it used. They had it for two days, and determined that it was the body control module. They weren't going to cover that, so they were asking for $1500. I had already gotten access to the online service manuals, and found they were full of something, the body control module didn't control the power mirrors at all! I had found it had a blown fuse for the mirror circuit, but they insisted that the fuse was good. I got it home, and found the problem in 20 minutes. The culprit? Mirror switch had a broken contact inside, which caused a short circuit and blew the fuse. $20 for a new switch, and the mirrors worked fine. But yeah, they were all set to change out the BCM....

the foam piece that was gone replaced, they were not going to replace the foam piece, they said i don't need it.
The foam pieces over the heads is primarily for sound mitigation. Doesn't appear you live in an extremely cold climate so the foam isn't needed as thermal insulation. Lots of EcoDiesel owners removed them regardless of the climate they live in without any issues.

I found a shop with good reviews so I stopped by and spoke with the owner about my situation. He scheduled my truck in to look at it but expressed his concern about the software used by the power assist steering. If any part of it is replaced it will need new software updates available only from a Stellantis dealer! Apparently this situation is becoming so widespread that it is going to take federal intervention. And we all know his that works out. We are in trouble!!!

I learned a long time ago that any quick drain valve like the Fumoto or similar are for the owners benefit and not the dealership or quick change lube tech's. Something so simple as a Fumoto valve might as well be alien technology to the average lube tech.

Most techs will just wrench off and back on those valves anyways as they drain too slow for them. You really have to be committed to doing almost all your own oil changes with a valve or you will run into those lube tech Apes that will either destroy them and/or lose the clips and such.
