I recently got my 17 Ram and activated the uconnect app. I have noticed that my truck seems to randomly start on its own. On the dash it says something about remote start activated. Is this something I am doing with my key fob bumping something in my pocket? I am definitely not requesting a remote start through my phone.

doubt that you're doing it through your pocket. in order to activate the remote start, you have to press it 2 times in a row. Maybe you're confusing the unlock button with the remote start button? I never activated the app in my truck so can't give you insight about that.

I know that i have started my Ram, while the FOB is in my Jeans pocket.

I have done it while climbing stairs, but mostly i do it while carrying something, like bags of Mulch & or Fertilizer.

Now, i try to put the FOB buttons against my leg, instead of having them facing out.

I have put on some weight in the last 4 years, & Doctors & Nurses are seemingly always asking to look at my Leg Ulcer, so instead of dropping my pants, i am now wearing larger legged Jeans, so i can expose my leg up to the knee by rolling it up.

Before my jeans may have been too tight in the legs, causing pressure on the FOB

The FOB can go bad as well, I had one that the lock/unlock started going crazy. Whe I opened it up, I saw that the little carbon discs had come loose.

This must've been from dropping the FOB over the course of time. I bought a couple FOB cases on Amazon, and swapped my circuit board out

I have accidentally remote started my truck once or twice in 5 years while at work because of accidentally bumping the FOB that was in my jeans pocket. I think it is very rare and hard to do, but it is definitely possible. I was walking by my truck about 50 feet away the one time when it happened...I was freaked out trying to figure out what just happened!!! Haha

Ok back to you stating you activated the UConnect. Has this happened SINCE you activated it? How long have you owned this truck and had it ever happened before you activated the UConnect?

There is a difference between Uconnect, which is FREE & connects your phone & the FOB to your truck & allows you to use the VR button

Uconnect Advantage & Sirius Guardian, lets you use APPS,
these are FEE Based, usually a monthly charge.
( one of the APPS, allows you to use your cell phone to Start your vehicle, at distances that your FOB can not reach )

Hi from Sask., Ca , I don't usally carry my fob, unless I am going out.
I have set the horn off a couple times, I usally wear a vest, but not when its too hot, and that is where I carry everything. I think one time I started the truck when I did not want to.

I have no clue on APP's as I don't mess with them
My battery is 10 yrs. old now, and OK, always in the garage .

I don't have uconnect but have started my truck unknowingly many times with the key fob in my pocket

I have remote started my 2017 many times with the key fob in my pocket. GTYankee commented about plcing the fob buttons agsinst his leg when in the pocket. That helped me a lot as well but sometimes other items in my pocket would activate the remote start. I placed a heat shrink cover over the buttons as you see in the picture. It helped and I now rarely remote start the truck. I also am hoping the heat shrink cover will minimize the wear of the button indicators. I've had a remote with all the labeling erased. View attachment 546482 The heat shrink will be easy to cut off if/when I need to replace the battery. It does require I press a bit harder to lock and unlock the truck but not by an unreasonable amount.

That helped me as well but at times other items in my pocket would activate the remote start. I placed a heat shrink tube over the fob as you can see in the picture. This Key Fob.jpg sleeve has been a good solution for me. It should also reduce the problem I've had with the button indications being worn off in my pocket. The sleeve will be easy to cut off if/when I need to replace the battery. The sleeve does require that I press the trucklock and unlock buttons a bit harder but not by an unreasonable amount.

With my auto lock, unlock. You don't need to push any buttons at all, other then the remote start, I do use it a bit in winter.

Add me to the list of folks that have had their truck crank itself at work. Right after I was toting some stuff. Co worker told me my truck was running and I thought he was just messing with me.

Take the fob apart and see if the little metal pads are still attached to the rubber, I also have a 2017 and last spring it started start at randomly, did a little research an opened up the FOB and one of the metal pieces was loose and would make contact in the right spot to start it, like EdGs I got a new case on Amazon I think and just swapped the electronics.

I clean up these at times, wash the rubber pads, and brush off the electronics.
On TV remotes it can help a lot if they get picky on working .
Sometimes I think about disabling the panic button.

This also happened to me. I opened the FOB and found the disc had moved. The remote start feature started the engine without my knowledge. I was able to superglue the disc back in place and use it as my backup. Would’ve bought a new one but figured it would be costly and programming necessary. So far no issues.
