I saw their comparison of the Ford 3.5L Eco-boost and the 3L Hurricane.
I was impressed, but that test truck wasn't a Rebel with a 3:92 rear end. It got 23MPG and handily out paced the Ford...

Besides, nobody buys a Rebel (or a Power Wagon) for the mileage...

I would like to have seen a bed cover on the RAM like the others as it’s probably worth some fraction of a mpg at least. But with the 3.92 rear and 33” tires that’s believable.

That was a pretty positive report and both had bed covers. They said the RAM had a towing package but I didn’t catch a reference to the rear end ratio. Was it a 3.92 or a 3.55? That’s a pretty impressive acceleration time for being a mile high.

Not surprised at the trip computer being optimistic in the RAM. Mty 23 Limited is over a mpg (about 1.25 to 1.5 mpg) the few times I’ve checked mileage at the pump.

I think somebody somewhere debunked the "bed covers give you better MPG" thinking. I've never noticed anything getting better/worse with cover on or off.

Well, regarding bed covers, these same guys got significantly better mpg in a test with a soft top folding cover on a standard cab RAM. But I admit after browsing various videos the results were mixed overall so maybe it depends on the vehicle, the rake, hard cover vs fabric, etc.

What's your logic behind that? 26 gallons on a 1/2 ton pickup is insufficient?
My ram has the 32 gallon tank, that gauge drops fast enough as if it had a 26 gallon tank…I would never want a 26 gallon tank in my truck.

Just got my son a 2020 ecodiesel. It has the smaller tank, but that is plenty with the fuel mileage it gets!!!

I watched one a little while back , Ram, GM and the Ford.
The GM had the largest motor, and got the best mileage for some strange reason.
Ford was 2, Ram 3rd.
running in a lope around Denver. They did not measure, just went by what the gas pump said when it clicked off, so that could make some difference on different trucks and the pumpee.
Just see a post where they are going to take the Ram HO foe a run, but haven't seen it yet.

Well, considering my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 QC LB had a 35-gallon tank, I'd say yeah. With my 32-gallon tank now while pulling my fifth wheel, I can't go over 200 miles on I-70 in KS. It's almost like driving the AlCan where you had better stop at every gas station you see.

Your tag says you're in a 2500. My inquiry was on a 1500. Don't see many people pulling heavy loads with a half ton, hence the inquiry as to why people want a big tank on a half ton. I get the intent, however. 32 gallon tank is only yielding 200 miles? 6.25mpg? That's rough.

I get 20 to 21 mpg on my 2021 1500 bighorn with 3.92 @ 70mph. I’m considering having the 33 gal tank installed. I have a 31’ travel trailer max wt is 7700 lbs. I get about 10 mpg towing. I usually go about 60mph so l’m taking it easy. With the 33 gal tank the extra gas would give me a range of over 300 miles towing.

Fords 36 gallon tank should be the norm on all these trucks.
Agreed. I love the 36 gallon tank in our 2014 F150. It has a range of 550 miles. I will also say the DTE estimate seems to be much more accurate on that truck than any of the Ram trucks we've owned.

What's your logic behind that? 26 gallons on a 1/2 ton pickup is insufficient?
IMHO, 26 gallons is marginally sufficient for a half ton, but only if you're using it strictly for commuting. If you tow much it's definitely insufficient for most people. Even if I'm only towing shorter distances I want a larger tank. I'd rather avoid filling stations when pulling a trailer. Our current Ram has the 33 gallon tank and we're glad it does.
