Is new struts needs for level kit?

I have a 2017 1500 laramie 2wd with about 65k miles and was wanting to put on a 2.5 inch supreme suspension spring spacer level kit. I took into the shop and they quoted me $300 plus alignment which is about right. They then explained they shocks often break for this year when doing a level kit. They then said it will be an additional $330 if this happens. I have never heard about this. Has anyone else heard of this?

I can admire the warnings but no it’s not common
