Hey all, I have a 2023 2500 6.4l HEMI. Towing a 6000 lb 30 foot camper, can't keep highway speeds without continuos shifting down to 5th, then 6th gear. Ideas on higher gear torque advancements? I have 410 gears, S&B cold air intake, Maganaflow exhaust. Pathetic performance !

The speed you tow at has a lot to do with how often your transmission shifts. If you're towing over 65 MPH, it's going to do a lot more of that.

It is just how a gas engine works. If you want more torque and less downshifting when towing, trade it for a cummins!! I know how you feel. This is my first hemi, all others have been cummins. When you are used to towing with a cummins, the hemi sucks compared to that. I do enjoy the fast warm up of the hemi since I drive 1 mile to work and that is it. I rarely tow, so I can't justify a cummins anymore, but I sure do miss it everytime I tow the boat or camper with the hemi. Hell, I miss the Cummins evertime I go up a hill and the hemi has to downshift at least 1 if not 2 gears when I'm completely empty!! My cummins powered truck on the same hills wouldn't downshift at all towing 10 to 12k!!!

The cheapest thing to do is realize that's how gas motors operate. It needs to spin to make power, and the drivetrain is designed around that concept. It's ok for it to spin.

If you want to maintain reliability and lope along at just off idle, time for a diesel.

Not what you want to hear (and I'm sure a few people will lose their minds over this) but a diesel is your answer. You could dump a fair amount of money into that truck and still not be where you want to be.
Being in Colorado you are getting a double whammy with a naturally aspirated gas engine because of the altitude unfortunately. I used to live out there and once I went turbo diesel I never went back. Forced induction and tons of torque, it's the way to go.

Ram has a free Diesel upgrade on right now for the 2500 and 3500s. Will be far and away the cheapest option for more torque and given your pickup is a 2023, should not be much of a price difference with all the current incentives, if you retail your 2023.

I built a pretty well loaded 2024 3500 Bighorn with HO Cummins here in Canada, on the RAM site, for 72,000. Would be quite a lot less I would imagine using your pricing.

Only offer I see is "No monthly payments for 90 days". At least factory offers.

The free diesel option might be dealer specific.

Nope, it is right on the Ram website. It shows after the build when you hit summary. If shows discounts and the discount reason is no charge diesel upgrade.

You are both right. Just in different countries. Build it on the Canada build & price and the diesel is a free upgrade after discount. Build it on the US build and price, there is no such discount.

Well, I should almost buy one on my Fleet number and resell it 6 months down the road to someone in the States. Thay way the warranty is transferable. Going to try building the exact same truck on both sites tomorrow and see which comes out cheaper when converted to U.S. dollars.

Am presuming you have the 8 speed transmission like my 2021 3500 with 6.4 engine. Have pulled my 5th wheel to Colorado. As others have said, put it in tow haul mode and drive it. RPMs will be high, like 4000 rpm’s. It’s supposed to do that. You won’t be going up the hill fast like the diesel trucks but you will get up there. Now when not towing, put your transmission indicator into 8 so that eco won’t kick in. Otherwise, trade it in on a diesel truck.
