Same with the aftermarket EPS racks. Not one, ever.

And lifters.
I have an aftermarket fan clutch from NAPA. Does it work as it should? NOPE.

It half-a$$ works, when it wants to. It might even be getting worse. I'm gonna deal with it for now.

I looked at their catalog for your year, the part they show is a severe duty clutch. Sorry it's crapping out on you. Mine was an overachiever.

There was 1 guy I remember from awhile back who had a 30k miles on a set of Comp Cams lifters. I'm hoping he'll check in occasionally.

I might get brave and try a set next time I build an engine.

I'm planning a Hemi swap into a first gen, maybe next year after my upcoming move is complete.

To tell the truth, I never thought about that, it was what they had in stock, they didn't indicate what it was. Was $117.

I should put my original back on, my t-stat and temp sensor were causing my problem. It was bad, I could stop it very easy at full hot, with my hand.

@Ken226, I love that 192° calorstat thermostat. Rock solid 190's for temps, 204°-206° occaisionally, when I'm exercising the horses, but drops back quickly.

Don’t lay the fan down, it has to stay it the upright position as it sits in the vehicle or it will leak the silicone fluid. It won’t take long. Ask me how I know?
Thanks. Not worried about it because it's going in the dumpster. Temps stay the same with or without the fan and clutch. But I don't drive in stop and go traffic.

I have read that before, too.

How do they make sure it's vertical throughout the travels of the unopened box?

The one from NAPA way laid flat in the box when I got it, and I doubt the box was shelved on edge.

The three that have experience with recently all came every which way, none had leaked. I think leaking is, or will be, a failure.

As for pooling inside the unit, if heat and RPMs don’t move fluids where they need to be, there is again a failure.

Sounds to me like someone’s excuse to get out of refunds turned into folklore.

Does that still work if you live somewhere where you run the heater most months of the year? I guess, maybe if you leave the defroster on?

On my '17 , l just have it set on Automatic 73 deg ( F) , always , regardless of outside temperatures . It automatically switches between heat and a/c as needed .

Due to the snowstorms and weeks of ice this winter, I had a long time between receiving the replacement clutch and installing it. I put it upright on a shelf over a radiator, and it still doesn't work right.

If you had one that leaked, I would think it was (extra) faulty. Otherwise you could never ship or warehouse these at any scale.
No, I layed it down to do a water pump. Took the pump off on a Saturday, put it together on Sunday. Had an oooy gooy substance seep out. Put it all back together and everything has been

i don’t know how they ship or the shipping requirements. Some things are clearly marked when shipping, fragil, glass or ship upright with arrow indicators on the box

Yea, Just a thought. As an experiment.

But, as imminency approaches I tend to fear the labor of having to re-do it more than the lost money, so will probably chicken out anyway.
As I get older, my time is worth more to me than a few dollars…..within reason, of course. I would rather stroke a check than waste time.

These were not shipped with any handling instructions. The MOPAR one was well packaged, but flat in the box. My impression is that yours had a seal fail, but in a way that was only a problem when you took it off and laid it flat.

Every service manual (Chiltons mostly) I ever had stated to NOT lay the fan clutches flat or there will be clutch damaged.

Must have been a reason.

I'll bet that the factory has them all standing upright on their side in the bulk Power Packs. So no factory ones leaking.

Yeah that's the feeling I get. There's no way they could ship them and ensure that they'd remain in the correct orientation the entire time. And that deviating from that would render them defective would be terrible for business and businesses installing them.

Just to add there are small stick on “tip indicators” they could use to put the responsibility of keeping it vertical while being shipped would be on the the transportation/storage after they leave manufacture.

We use them while moving house hold goods, for small crated items inside a lift van and I see them for the entire bigger crate, just a cheap way to prove the item remained vertical while being transported.

I don’t know if the fans discussed have to remain upright or not, I would imagine your right as they would use a tip indicater to protect them from improper handling.

I'm running a US Motor Works fan clutch, part #22059, I got it from RockAuto. Excellent quality and is actually made in the USA. So far it's been great, working as it should. I only heard it get loud twice, both times I was towing a car trailer.
