Just purchased an aftermarket LED third brake light for my 2014 1500. I have been reading about the leaks around this area of the truck, and was wondering if i should replace the gasket that came with the unit with a better one or if the one that came with the unit is good enough. I am not experiencing any issues and it does not appear that the previous owner has had any either, as i could not see anywhere that water has entered the cab. Also, would you recommend any of the aftermarket tail and headlight setups? I am looking at Spyder and Recon.

thanks in advance.

I installed rubber door weather stripping on the back of my 3rd brake light. No leaks.
As ler tail lights, I went with these VIP moto because the look like tinted lenses, but are clear. Also they have bright white LED reverse lights.

Yea just as the others already stated, get some rubber door weather stripping and you'll be fine. I used cheap stuff from Walmart and it worked perfect.
For the tail/head light, Spyder and Recon are the same so if you like the Spyder version get it as it's much cheaper. For their newest model of tail lights with an LED C-Bar, the only difference is the Spyder version is white and the Recon is red. I went with the Spyder first but on my black truck that white bar stuck out like a soar thumb and looked gross to me so I paid more and got the Recon version. The red also matched my color scheme perfectly with my wheels and custom badges so it was an easy decision. Sexiest tail lights on the market in my opinion! Also have the Recon LED 3rd brake light.

Thanks all. Were these upgrades just plug n play? For the new 3rd brake light, I should remove the weather sealing that came with the new unit and replace it with the marine version?

Yes, but depends on your truck. 3rd brake light is plug n play for any model. For the tail lights you have to have OEM LED tails otherwise you will need to purchase a separate adapter to make them work.

Yes, scrape off the old sealant and add the new stuff.

Yupp what he said, the new stuff will be super tight so you’ll have to put a lil effort into getting the light back on and maybe retighten it in a few weeks to make sure it’s still snug as the rubber breaks in.

Not to highjack the thread but want to say Hi. Fiance and I just moved to Lewistown area in September. Will have to watch for you and give a wave!

Nice! You should probably share another pic or two of your truck so I know who to wave back at haha
