I apologize if you've said before and I hadn't seen it but is your uncle still around to get to see his old car? I've never had a real Hemi car, always wanted one though. Great story!
He passed away about 8 years ago.The current owner did track down my cousin though,in the hopes of talking to his Dad (my uncle) about a year after he'd passed. My Aunt did send him some of the original literature on the car, which she still had. The car was also featured in Mopar Action a little over a year ago to. I was about 10 years old when he traded his 68 Road Runner off on the car,and as a kid i always thought he was nuts,as his Road Runner was done up as a Day 2 car with big-n-little tires, and i loved that car, lol. I thought the Charger was butt ugly when him and my Dad brought it home, and to this day,i still think it was one of the uglier Chargers built, lol. My Dad and Uncle were actually hunting farm tractors when they stumbled across the car sitting on the lot in Medicine Hat,and my Uncle ended up buying the car, instead of a tractor, lol

Damn that's awesome that you got a couple pics of it from Carlisle. I don't suppose you might have a pic of the placard that's in front of it by chance?
I used to get picked up at High School fairly often in the car.
You'd never know the car seen year round use in it's early days, that included snow, and lived 6 miles off the pavement on a gravel road. I'm surprised at how well the paint and body have held up (edit: it does appear to have had 1 repaint),but it hasn't seen very many miles since Andy sold it in 79. The car has been on it's side,he was coming home from a Christmas party in 78 after having had a few wobbly pops, and was sneaking through the back roads, when he hit a snowbank and the car laid over on the passenger side in the ditch,it broke the passenger mirror ( in the sheet he has in the trunk,he claims it was a dealer replacement/add-on mirror, when in actual fact the mirror was replaced in 79 after it fell on it's side, with a dealer replacement mirror) and put a minor dent in the passenger door, but it ran on it's side just long enough to wipe out the crank, that's why the engine was rebuilt in 79
Unfortunately no, but there is a pretty good view of it in the video you posted:

Definitely not ugly to me. The only thing I wouldn't be crazy about on the whole car would be the green interior. The Hemi and the Air Grabber hood would easily made me over look that. I had a '68 Road Runner that I loved but the whole package would have made me trade also! Sorry about your uncle, sounds like me and him would have gotten along well!

The car wasn't really all that quick to 120 mph, after that it came alive, lol. My Dads old 68 428 Galaxxi used to eat the Hemi to 125 mph,but after that the Hemi would start to reel it in,but by then,my old man had tapped the brakes and was slowing down, and telling his younger brother the race was over, lol Used to p-i-s-s my uncle off,but my Dad had been around racing long enough to know how to win, lol. The only redeeming feature the car had in my opinion was the air grabber. When my Uncle would pick me up at high school,he would always have the air grabber flipped up,and all my high school buddies would drool over it then, lol

Yep, those 3.23 gears wasn't much for takeoff. I've been in those types of situations quite a few times but it always excited me running them down! Lol

After 120,there weren't many cars that would beat it,but up to 120 mph, lots would eat it for breakfast. I think it was around about the summer of 75 he took it to Edmonton and had it dyno-tuned,and the car was a fair bit quicker to 120,but still wasn't nothing to write home about. I grew up in a fairly well to do farming community,so there were lots of muscle cars kicking around in those days.My high school parking lot was full of either brand new pick-up trucks or muscle cars,i have to admit growing up in the 70's was a good time for a gearhead kid, lol.

I couldn't agree with you more! I wouldn't give up the era I/we grew up in to be young today for nothing. That is one thing that makes me ok with my age and getting older. I don't know how everyone that grew up in those years feel but I had a blast. No matter what brand the car was that I was meeting down the road I could tell you the brand and within a year or 2 what it was when it got in my eyesight. Such freedom we had and didn't appreciate it as much as I should have! LOL

Didn't 440-6's and hemi's come stock with the dana 60, 3;54 axle, not the 8 3/4 3:23's?
You're probably right. I seen the 3.23 on the standard features. I didn't see what it had in the options.

Not in 71,before that i think they did.Car had the 8 3/4 diff under it,with 3.23's right from word go,as nobody ever touched the diff,at least not while my uncle owned the car. Gardiner had ordered 6 of the cars, and probably had the pull to get what they wanted when ordering 6 hemi Chargers. Western Canada dealers had pull in those days,as there were dealers who could get cars that the US dealers couldn't get.
Case in point the 71 and 72 340 Dart Swingers, they weren't available Stateside, but were available in Western Canada.

440-6's and hemis with automatics generally got the 8¾ because the engineers decided the driveline shock wasn't bad enough to warrant the larger, heavier rear. Same engine with 4 speeds got the Dana because the driveline shock & stress was more severe with the manual trans.

When the winged cars were new, they couldn't give them away, now everybody wants one.. I almost think there's more of them floating around then Ma Mopar built,as there's a few clone ones floating around up here.

Alot of people don't realize the wings are differant, the one on the Bird allowed you to open the trunk lid farther then it opened on the Daytona.
