For me, I think the best solution for the moment is some form of hybrid tech.
I know that Toyota are the world leaders in that arena, so I guess when we laughed at them for the Prius, they're having the last laugh now.
The Commodore has a 2017 Prius Prime. For her needs it is perfect and has functioned flawlessly. She can use it locally and rarely goes off from electric use. However, when she wants to visit her sister out of State the hybrid capability allows her to travel hundreds of miles round trip and never plug the car in to charge. Hell, I did not even install a 240V line in the garage for charging. She has always used a 120V 20 Amp outlet for charging.
My largest concern is keeping fresh fuel in the tank. I will not let her buy more than 3 gallons at a time. I think it gets fueled about every 2-3 months! LOL
I drive it for around town runs. However, I certainly would not want to spend a day on the road behind the wheel. All of our travels are done in the RAM.
No doubt though, the Prius definitely fills a specific niche.

To me a hybrid Ram 1500 is more appealing than an Electric one. But I guess everyone needs to hop on the B-EV fad before it goes away.
I'm not saying there isn't a place for full electric vehicles. However I detest the idea that I need to get rid of my V8, just because the government says so.
Fortunately I live in Dubai, where that wouldn't be a possibility.

He's definitely on to something fo... a cold beer in hand whilst mowing ones lawn.

Careful. in some states, and it has already happened, the cops will cite you for DUI for drinking alcohol on a riding mower in your front yard.

I don't recall if it went to court, or what the outcome was. I know I'd fight that one until I was out of blood. Ridiculous.

This thread reminded me of an old story haha.
LIGHTING AND A LAWN MOWER

For those of us who do work in the yard occasionally.. Remember the
checklist!

If you don't laugh hysterically at this,...CHECK YOUR PULSE...this is
funny....and true. This was sent by a retired dentist.

We have the standard 6 ft. fence in the backyard, and a few months ago,
I heard about burglaries increasing dramatically in the entire city. To
make sure this never happened to me, I got an electric fence and ran a
single wire along the top of the fence.

Actually, I got the biggest cattle charger Tractor Supply had, made for
26 miles of fence. I then used an 8 ft. long ground rod, and drove it
7.5 feet into the ground. The ground rod is the key, with the more you
have in the ground, the better the fence works.

One day I'm mowing the back yard with my cheapo Wal-Mart 6 hp big wheel
push mower. The hot wire is broken and laying out in the yard. I knew
for a fact that I unplugged the charger. I pushed the mower around the
wire and reached down to grab it, to throw it out of the way.

It seems as though I hadn't remembered to unplug it after all.

Now I'm standing there, I've got the running lawnmower in my right hand
and the 1.7 giga-volt fence wire in the other hand. Keep in mind the
charger is about the size of a marine battery and has a picture of an
upside down cow on fire on the cover.

Time stood still.

The first thing I notice is my ****** trying to climb up the front side
of my body. My ears curled downwards and I could feel the lawnmower
ignition firing in the backside of my brain. Every time that Briggs &
Stratton rolled over, I could feel the spark in my head. I was
literally at one with the engine.

It seems as though the fence charger and the ************* lawnmower
were fighting over who would control my electrical impulses.

Science says you cannot crap, pee, and vomit at the same time. I beg to
differ. Not only did I do all three at once, but my bowels emptied 3
different times in less than half of a second. It was a Matrix kind of
bowel movement, where time is creeping along and you're all leaned back
and BAM BAM BAM you just crap your pants 3 times. It seemed like there
were minutes in between but in reality it was so close together it was
like exhaust pulses from a big block Chevy turning 8 grand.

At this point I'm about 30 minutes (maybe 2 seconds) into holding onto
the fence wire. My hand is wrapped around the wire palm down so I can't
let go. I grew up on a farm so I know all about electric fences.....but
Dad always had those pieces of **** chargers made by International or
whoever that were like 9 volts and just kinda tickled.

This one I could not let go of. The 8 foot long ground rod is now
accepting signals from me through the permadamp Ark-La-Tex river bottom
soil. At this point I'm thinking I'm going to have to just man up and
take it, until the lawnmower runs out of gas.

'Damn!,' I think, as I remember I just filled the tank!

Now the lawnmower is starting to run rough. It has settled into a loping
run pattern as if it had some kind of big lawnmower race cam in it.
Covered in poop, pee, and with my vomit on my chest I think 'Oh God
please die... Pleeeeaze die'. But nooooo, it settles into the rough
lumpy cam idle nicely and remains there, like a big bore roller cam EFI
motor waiting for the go command from its owner's right foot.

So here I am in the middle of July, 104 degrees, 80% humidity, standing
in my own backyard, begging God to kill me. God did not take me that
day.....he left me there covered in my own fluids to writhe in the
misery my own stupidity had created..

I honestly don't know how I got loose from the wire...I woke up laying
on the ground hours later. The lawnmower was beside me, out of gas. It
was later on in the day and I was sunburned.

There were two large dead grass spots where I had been standing, and
then another long skinny dead spot where the wire had laid while I was
on the ground still holding on to it. I assume I finally had a seizure
and in the resulting thrashing had somehow let go of the wire.

Upon waking from my electrically induced sleep I realized a few things:

1- Three of my teeth seem to have melted.

2- I now have cramps in the bottoms of my feet and my right butt cheek
(not the left, just the right).

3- Poop, pee, and vomit when all mixed together, do not smell as bad as
you might think.

4- My left eye will not open.

5- My right eye will not close.

6- The lawnmower runs like a sumbitch now. Seriously! I think our little
session cleared out some carbon fouling or something, because it was
better than new after that.

7- My nuts are still smaller than average yet they are almost a foot
long.

8- I can turn on the TV in the game room by farting while thinking of
the number 4 (still don't understand this???)..

That day changed my life. I now have a newfound respect for things.. I
appreciate the little things more, and now I always triple check to make
sure the fence is unplugged before I mow.

The good news, is that if a burglar does try to come over the fence, I
can clearly visualize what my security system will do to him, and THAT
gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling all over, which also reminds me to
triple check before I mow.

Yeah, no pure electric for me either. So far my experience with the plug in electric hybrid has been quite positive. Before the Prius Prime the Commodore had a 2009 Prius hybrid. ( no plug in capability ). That car also gave her good service with never an issue. No problems ever and people were fighting to buy it! After having both, IMO the plugin with pure electric capability for a set number of miles with the additional ability to travel long distances as a hybrid beats the hybrid only option hands down.

mopar coolant oat 21 bucks, hoat is 20 bucks for concentrate and 16 pre diluted. The perfect coolant for rams is dirt cheap, why buy something else? Ends up like 10 bucks a gallon when mixed with distilled water. Walmart generally looks like 8 bucks more, but the main point is I have seen a lot of coolant threads lately, anyone see any reason to not use OEM when it is this good and cheap? The least risky move is also cheap. Summers hear, good time to drain 2 gallon and put 2 back give er a refresh.

Briggs was great at pumping out millions (yes, millions) of little aluminum lawn mower engines every year until the world changed and Honda came ashore with OHV (gasp!) sleeved engines. And now...........electric, which seems a good fit for city lot mowers now that we have lithium power density batteries. Quiet and no dinking around with gas, oil, and plugs for such little motors. I'm looking at an EGO trim mower currently. Still have a 20 year old Craftsman push mower with a Briggs.
I got a MTD from 2009, with bag and mulcher capabilities. I knock the dirt outta air filter, but I buy them in bulk and replace often,. Also, change oil, etc. :Last major work: Friggin pull lanyard broke and it was a MONSTER PITA to put on new one. Finally got installed, but I changed location for pull handle, lowered it down. Also change oil as needed, that no change gabageola needed KINDA sounds LIKE the BS from RAM ref lifetime tranny fluid, lmao.

Speaking of which, I wonder when to replace hoses and belts these days?
The eldest heard belt squeal at startup, threw a new belt and tensioner on @ 58,000 miles but 7-1/2 years old. Belt ribs were hard as a rock, but hadn't started cracking yet.
Hose and belt rubber isn't exposed to sunlight UV, but they are exposed to much higher heat from the engine.
When does rubber blend heat harden these days? Tires supposed to go 5 years max due to hardening. Should we changed hoses @ 7 years?

Maybe in PA, in TX U cannot cite a person for DUI regardless of what they r operating if ON their property and not public access. However, venture into the public domain, well, tada. But there are also many rules/laws that specifically demote what is private property/curtilage area and what is access. That stuff got challenged in an Appeals court, not remember if 5th or 9th court, which put a big damper on the po po running onto yer property to do wateva. But as always dat chit can be confusing.

With the extreme cold U get, I would. I, We, Momma and I bought a WW 14' stock trailer in -06. Still has original LT's on, dual axle. But it only does local runs, no trips. One of these days, gotta get it into shop and have them pull all: Brakes, axles etc and do MX and also replace tires, lol. I have no doubt inner seals need replacing, and races and bearings greased, and maybe inners replaced.

Lifespan. Silicone hoses last practically forever and might possibly outlast your car. Because they have such a long lifespan, they can average out to a lower cost per mile compared to rubber hoses, even though their upfront cost is higher.Jan 3, 2017- from siliconehose.com

Yeah, they don't make for the 6.4 Hemi - completely different hose moldings, which is also why the big oil filters won't fit.

Radiator hoses on my 07 pontiac are all original. Radiator has been replaced thanks to an ice chunk coming off of a semi on the interstate but hoses still look decent for 267k and 17 years old. The plastic wire loom that covers the wiring on the other hand.... if you looked at it wrong it disintegrated before your eyes so thats been re loomed.
