Ford tried this when the Ecoboost first came out by recommending 5W20. Not sure if it failed in their testing or shortly after they came out to the public but they realized the Turbo's were causing fuel dilution in the oil and that combined with how hard the motor was working was killing them early. They now recommend 5W30. I would not be surprised to see the same with the Hurricane. I personally would not buy this engine for a couple of years as it is brand new and unknown.
Ford Beta tested the Ecoboost around the world in MANY tests of endurance. These tests involved several engines from desert to racing to baja, etc. In short, they thrashed these engines non-stop for hundreds of thousands of miles. I do not recollect what oil they used, but I do remember their brag about how they tore down these abused engines and recorded stellar results. Problem is, in production, these engines are regulated as a part of CAFE, EPA, etc. This causes the use of a completely different oil that the other-world test units I would extrapolate.

Then they put these engines in domestic "public" use vehicles, and the consuming public proves that they, if anyone, can break them! ;)

Dumped the R&R this morning and went back with SS 0w20/Ea15k12. Started it a few hours later and it was whisper quiet.

So that's 2 different vehicles from 2 different manufacturers with 2 completely different motors becoming quieter on on cold starts with SS 0w20. Definitely wasn't expecting that...

pretty interested case study

ss5w20 versus ss0w20
cst visc 8.8 cst visc 8.8
noack 5.8 noack 8.5
hths 2.67 hths 2.67

Never seen anything like that before.

Pour point 0w20 -63f and 5w20 is -58f, defintely not your usual shelf oils.

Thought about that too. I know it would be way easier to drop a 6.0L/6L90 in
It's not uncommon to see a differant body dropped onto a Cummins chassis.Last time i was back home,i seen a 68 El Camino sitting on a 12V chassis, thing looked wicked, lol.
This old gal is on a 94 2500 chassis. It's running a compound turbo 12V,and is one hell'va sleeper,lol

Same here, going to run my 4th gen until it falls apart.

Then I'll look for my Suburban
Not sure I understand why U want a rolling city block on wheels, but each to their own, LOL. Kinda like those Monster V10 Fords, Excursions.

A 7.3 excursion would be epic to own
My old neighbor bought the diesel new off showroom floor. Last time I seen him maybe a year ago he was still driving it 25 years later. If there is a knock, it is towing, for some reason they don't rate those as a truck, or maybe it is a time thing as in those years vehicles topped out at 11k pounds? It was good for him, he sold Murphy beds so his trailer was like 6k pounds. But that dude was either working or camping with his 3 kids, like I said if I had a life that is the truck. Next time I see him I wanna see how many miles that thing has on it.

An old work buddy bought one for his wife, no tow. Found out it was intended as a huge passenger carrier. Didn't even have a hitch receiver, and the frame would not support any real towing. Weird.

Wife was heavy into Girl Scouts and that beast was just what she needed to haul girls and camp gear though.

Yeah I say buddy, but it really did end up the wife's car, lol. Eventually they bought a box truck for their company.

My Father in Law has a 2000 model with the 6.8L V-10. It is like the Tasmanian Devil in the Warner Bros. Cartoon in it's insatiable appetite.... for fuel. :)

You nailed it - "it's a time thing". In '2000 the Excursion was rated the same as the Super Duty F250 - 10K towing. They were very capable vehicles.

My next door neighbor has 2 Excursion's...a gasser V10 with 200K+ miles on it, and a Power Stroke diesel with 400K+ miles on it...both trucks run great!

Lol I know it's like a brick going down the road. I've always had a thing for the square body Chevys. My dad had a 1991 2500 Suburban when I was growing up. That thing was a tank lol

Red Line uses 1-Dodecene PAO, which has higher heat resistance but not the best pour point. This makes it ideal for high-performance applications. AMSOIL’s Signature Series lineup, on the other hand, focuses on blending the best lubricant for daily drivers. These are vehicles that are often run cold, short-tripped, and generally operated for extended OCIs without much consideration for the engine's health. Red Line’s High Performance lineup targets performance enthusiasts, offering motor oils with higher film strength, heat resistance, and HTHS for their respective grades. The trade-off is a less favorable pour point. Red Line is designed for those who drive their vehicles hard. Both companies produce excellent oils, but their target audiences are different.
